Importance of Sports & PE in School Curriculum | Jay Shah, Co-Founder -The Sports Gurukul

About Speaker:

An IT marketing professional, passion & love for sports drove Jay to enter the field of sports in 2002, eventually leading to the founding of TSG, one of India’s first private grass root sports firms. Jay, also a certified Yoga teacher which also forms the basis of the coaches training program of TSG, believes that “sports in the country does not suffer due to lack of places or funds only but essentially lack of ideas and initiatives from people''. In the last 18 years he has been working to promote sports & promote sporting communities and infrastructure at the local level. His creative ways of creating sports spaces led him to create India's 1st full size tennis court on a terrace of a building which was the result of his beliefs of creating unique ideas for sports to work. The work was published in Hindustan times for the unique creation.

Under his leadership, TSG‘s sports idea was selected amongst the Top 40 (among 16,000+) business ideas across India at the Economic Times Power of Idea Contest in 2010. This led to him being selected for a training program at IIM Ahmedabad and The Sports Gurukul also received a grant from the Dept. Of Science & Technology, Govt of India, probably one of the only companies during that time certifying the sports gurukul ideas as one of the ideas which would shape the future of India. He was recently inducted in the Karmaveer Global Fellowship Hall of Fame with a Karam Veer Chakra bronze medal in recognition of his many years of service in the field of sports. Mr. Jay Shah is dedicated to the cause of promoting sports and fitness in every child of India and continues working with the only aim to see every child as a fit and active child for life.
