The Leafs Make Their Big Splash

What a weekend in the NHL! We got a big trade, some other substantial news off the ice, and it was a topsy-turvy week in the standings as well. To begin today’s podcast, Jason and Frank took a look at the Ryan O’Reilly trade that we saw on Saturday night. Kyle Dubas and company pushed their chips into the middle byu moving four draft picks, but are O’Reilly and Noel Acciari enough to push them past the first round? Frank also talked about why he has a problem with where the bar is being set in Toronto.

From there, they talked about the news that Jonathan Toews is going to be staying in Chicago this season as he continues to battle an illness. The Hawks won’t be able to get anything for their Captain, but Patrick Kane may have upped his trade value with a Sunday night hat-trick against the Maple Leafs. Jason also wondered about the potential availability of Max Domi.

They also looked into some teams that are going to be facing tough decisions. The New York Islanders haven’t been the dominant force some thought they’d be after acquiring Bo Horvat. The Washington Capitals are slipping and how a lot of pieces they could sell off. The Pittsburgh Penguins have games in hand on a lot of teams, but they are far from a lock to make the playoffs. It’s going to be a wild finish in the East.

Tyler Yaremchuk also stopped by for a new edition of Fill in the Blank where he asked the guys about the Tampa Bay Lightning, Edmonton Oilers, and St. Louis Blues.

Ep. 35: The Habs dominance, the NHL Draft, and more with Craig Button!

A new episode of The DFO Rundown is here! With Jason Gregor out of the lineup for today's pod, Frank Seravalli brought in Craig Button to fill in! The duo kicked things off by talking about the Montreal Canadiens surprising dominance of the Winnipeg Jets and how Head Coach Dominic Ducharme has had an impact. From there, they went on to talk about the Vegas Golden Knights coming back to even things up with the Avalanche before getting into the other two series from a thrilling second round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs!   Button gave some great insight into how the remaining teams in the playoffs are being coached and who needs to make the most adjustments to take their team to the next level. Of course, the next round is going to feature two matchups between teams that haven't played each other yet this season. Craig ranked the four divisions and talked about who could be favourites in round three.   They transitioned from there and talked a little bit about the NHL Draft. Owen Power is coming off a fantastic performance at the World Hockey Championships. Was that enough for him to be locked in as the #1 overall pick? Craig shared his take and gave us his player comparables for the young defenseman. They also talked about what the Draft looks like after that. Hosted on Acast. Ep. 30: Frank's a Free Agent & the Playoffs Are Fire!

Ep. 30: Frank's a Free Agent & the Playoffs Are Fire!

Episode 30 of The DFO Rundown is here! It was a busy week for our guy Frank Seravalli, who kicked off the podcast by giving us an update on his future and where he'd like to go now that his time at TSN has come to an end. From there, they went around the NHL and dug into each of the first-round series.   The Panthers may have saved their season on Thursday night but they also might have a bit of a goaltending controversy on their hands. Speaking of goaltending controversies, there might be one brewing in Vegas and it won't just impact their playoff run. It will also make their choice at the expansion draft an interesting one. They wrapped up the playoff talk by looking at which deadline acquisition has had the biggest impact on their new club.   They moved on to talk about some of the teams out of the playoffs and which organizations could make big changes, and which ones could give their current groups another chance. Vancouver and Calgary were the focus here.   They wrapped up the episode with a little 'Buy/Sell, which focused on the playoffs, a few individual players, Nazem Kadri, and a trio of Canadian teams!
