English Gardner Is A Fighter | Behind Her Career Battling Depression, Injuries, Homelessness

English Gardner Is A Fighter | Behind Her Career Battling Depression, Injuries, Homelessness

"It has always been an uphill battle with me for track and field but it's shown me that anything that I really want to do, I have the ability to do. From all these obstacles that I've had, I've never really seen it as an opportunity to quit this thing. A lot of people tell me, 'You've been through so much. Why don't you just hang it up? You've gone to the Olympics. You've brought home two medals. You've been top 10 all-time in your sport. You've done enough.' I'm addicted to it. Until that burning desire goes away, I'm gonna continue to run and be the fighter that I am."

English Gardner is a two-time Olympian and has two Olympic medals from the 4x100m relay including gold from the Summer Games in Rio in 2016. She has two World Championship silver medals in the relay as well. She is a two-time U.S. champion and her personal best of 10.74 puts her at No. 10 on the all-time world list and No. 5 on the all-time U.S. list for the event. The New Jersey native really popped off nationally as a star at the University of Oregon, where she won five NCAA titles. Over the past decade, she has defied the odds and fought to remain atop the sport. The journey has included injuries, COVID, depression, anxiety, homelessness as a high schooler, family cancer battles and much more. I’ve been a fan of English for years because of the beast she unleashes on the track and I’m so glad we finally got to sit down and chat for the podcast.
