Ep. 1043 Diana Verde Nieto | Uncorked

Ep. 1043 Diana Verde Nieto | Uncorked

Welcome to episode 1043 in which host Polly Hammond interviews Diana Verde Nieto, this week on Uncorked. This week, we’re joined by Diana Verde Nieto, co-founder and CEO of Positive Luxury. Long before Sustainability was a buzzword, Diana and her team began working with luxury organizations to support awareness and improvements in ESG+ goals. Today, we tap into her 20 years of experience to better understand what is really motivating change, how the luxury market is different, and how consumers and producers alike can balance pragmatic needs with sustainable choices. Let’s get into it! More about today’s guest: Diana Verde Nieto is the co-founder and CEO of Positive Luxury, developers of the globally-recognized Butterfly Mark. Their proprietary ESG+ assessment framework is the only one designed for the specific social, environmental and material risks of the luxury industry. Originally from Argentina, Diana credits growing up under a dictatorship to her understanding of how policy directly affects outcomes for a country and its citizens. This understanding drove her to start a consultancy on sustainability in 2003, long before it was trendy. Diana holds a degree in Global Leadership & Public Policy from Harvard Kennedy School and was trained on environmental and sustainability through Al Gore’s Alliance for Climate Protection. She splits her time between Barcelona, Auckland, and Napa, consulting, writing, and speaking about the trends that impact today’s wine businesses. She’s an advisor to New Zealand Trade & Enterprise, host of Uncorked with the Italian Wine Podcast, cohost of the Real Business of Wine with Robert Joseph, and, occasionally, a knitter. Polly is a graduate of the University of Southern California, where she earned degrees in International Relations and French. Those studies led to a deep and abiding love affair with behavioral Economics, and her wine work is based on insights into all the crazy and irrational reasons consumers engage with brands. With over 20 years’ experience in growing successful companies, Polly knows first-hand the challenges faced by independent businesses. She approaches each client experience with empathy and understanding for what it takes to adapt and thrive in the real world.
