Exploring AI: Responsible Use and Hallucinations with Rebecca Parsons

Today’s guest is Thoughtworks’ Chief Technology Office Emerita Rebecca Parsons; a speaker, author and advocate of technology. But whilst we can advocate tech, we need to challenge how it’s harnessed and used, and Rebecca is here to talk about the responsible use of AI (and what that really means in terms of business). Are we too narrow in our focus when tackling a problem? Just because you fixed the problem in front of you doesn’t mean you’ve done your job! Also, are hallucinations really such a problem? Again a narrow perspective on what AI can and can’t be used for might be robbing us of the broader positive changes it could bring about.

Oliver Parson, Principle Data Scientist at Hive, questions the need for his PhD.

Oliver has the most in-demand skill set in the technology market. Data scientists are very rare, and very valuable resources to organisations desperate to unlock the value of their data and implement new tech. However there is a debate happening around what the DNA of the data scientist should be; do they need a PhD? Oliver discusses that, and the best ways to help yourself upskill. During our chat Oliver mentions online courses for people who are interested in improving their skills, here they are: https://www.coursera.org/learn/machine-learning https://www.coursera.org/learn/ai-for-everyone Also, whilst you’re reading the notes!
