Alpen Labs is a project that is making significant strides in the world of ZK rollups. In our conversation with David Seroy, we explore the evolution of Bitcoin scaling solutions and the story of how Bitcoin scaling really started.

David and the Alpen Labs team have been pioneering the research around Bitcoin scaling since the earliest of days.

We talked about this story and David also shared his insights into how Alpen Labs prioritizes trust minimization and efficient design to enhance Bitcoin's scalability while preserving its decentralized nature as the core ethos.

We delve into the technical design choices that set Alpen apart as well as their focus on ZK as the endgame. We talked about their implementation of BitVM and how they have made technical strides in addition to other researchers. We also discuss the challenges and opportunities in Bitcoin scaling, including liquidity issues and the potential of future soft forks like OPcat and covenants.

Looking ahead, Alpen envisions building a robust financial ecosystem on Bitcoin, focusing on financial applications such as Bitcoin-backed stablecoins, perpetuals, and hash rate futures. David has a strong perspective on the core usecase of crypto being the hardest money in the world, of which Bitcoin is the best contender in the entire space.
