053 Comfort During A Time of Change

053 Comfort During A Time of Change

Well what a week! So much has happened since 7 days ago when I last recorded!!

Yesterday I had some very sad news and one of the things that I found really hard was the reminder and awareness of distance from people. I shared my sadness on Instagram not because of wanting sympathy but because now more than ever, I think we need to embrace and acknowledge the entire spectrum of emotions and talk about how that looks. It's important that we develop the ability to hold both positive and negative at the same time, if we can't flex, we break.

We have taken so much for granted for so many years. The ability to have a comfortable life, shops filled with everything and anything, deliveries to our doors, flights around the world, weekends away, holidays, pleasures of all shapes and sizes; we've been building and enjoying a world that has been so self-centred and driven by desire and literally overnight it's all change.

I know this is a difficult time, we have children uncertain of their futures, their routine has been thrown out of the window, financially we don't know what the future holds – but there are things we can do, right now. This quote from The Fellowship of The Ring sums it up beautifully:

"I wish it need not have happened in my time" said Frodo "So do I" said Gandalf "and so do all who live to see such times. But that is not for them to decide. All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given to us"

So whilst we don't know what life looks like ahead of today, we have today, and tomorrow will become today and we will have that too and for a time that is how we will live and in time we will start to see a new future taking shape and to be honest, I'm feeling optimistic about that. The future we were looking at was one that was being polluted by air travel, over consumption and poor lifestyle choices – so this pandemic, as devastating as it might be, ALSO gives us huge opportunity to change the entire way we have been doing things.

Only last month I saw a discussion on how to manage global warming and they said one of the fastest ways to turn things around would be to stop global travel but that no government would ever be able to convince people to stop getting on planes – and suddenly planes are being grounded. Yes, there are awful consequences to business and the economy but there are also potentially long term life saving consequences to what will pass in a matter of months.

This will be hard, but not impossible and if we all pull together, I think we will see a brighter future. Change is never comfortable, sudden change can be traumatic and so managing our response to this is really the make or break.

The panic buying that we have seen taking place has been really ugly, I get people are worried but this attitude of "self" first is not going to help anyone, it just makes everything worse and we really need to start looking beyond self.

So, talk talk talk – please join in on the Facebook group page, also please follow me on Instagram as I will do my best to put up something at least every day either on stories or an IGTV to share a bit of sunshine and positivity – it will get tough but it will also get better and we will be stronger because of it ….all my links are on my website ….

Abraham Lincoln – the best thing about the future, is that it comes one day at a time
