133: Power to the people - We beat the billionaires

Has there ever been a crazier 48 hours in football? On Sunday night we were all hit by the bombshell that 12 greedy European football clubs were intending to break away and form a closed-shop European Super League, threatening the very future of the sport as we know it. And then by the time we sat down to record this episode on Tuesday evening, it was all beginning to fall apart as Chelsea and Man City pulled out, Man Utd announced Ed Woodward was going to leave the club and football fans began to celebrate what is increasingly looking like a victory for football and a victory for integrity. All the quick developments on Tuesday evening meant that a lot of it was going on as we were recording, so apologies if it sounds a bit disjointed at times. We tried our very best for it to make it all make sense. On the show this week, we were joined by former West Ham goalkeeper and co-host of the Footy Prime podcast, Craig Forrest, who was very vocal about the ESL on Sunday night and used our chat to blow off some steam about how he feels about the whole thing. Forrest also discussed Lukasz Fabianski’s mistake against Newcastle last weekend and what he thinks the future holds for our No.1. Also this week, The Athletic’s Roshane Thomas joined us for a chat about the ESL, the board and the season so far, and David Chidgey from the Chelsea FanCast helps us preview the weekend’s game against the Blues as well as talking through his views as a fan of one of the ESL clubs. Finally, James and Will chat through their Betway Charity Bets for the Chelsea game and we discuss West Ham Women’s recent two results, including that 11-0 FA Cup win over Chichester City. It’s another action-packed show and well worth a listen as we and the rest of football continue to digest what has happened in football over the last 72 hours. Thanks so much for listening.
