How Abstract Plans to Dominate Consumer Crypto

Despite the advancements in the DeFi sector, cases of flash loans, rugpulls, private key hacks and smart contract vulnerabilities continue to increase. Despite DeFi insurance protocols having been in the space since 2020, the model still has ways to go as collateralizing risk and offering coverage isn’t as simple as it seems. Today we talked with Dan Thomson the CMO of InsurAce, one of the fastest growing decentralized multi-chain insurance protocol that has over 100 protocols protected, $34.6M in TVL and $206.8M in Total Value Covered across 16 blockchains. We went over the main reasons for DeFi exploits, how insurance works as well as the current state and pitfalls of DeFi Insurance Protocols. As more capital flows into the ecosystem, decentralized insurance protocols such as InsurAce will be crucial in making DeFi safer for everyone. The DEX space has seen a lot of changes since DeFi Summer. A lot of positive ones and some interesting experiments for sure. An OG in the DeFi space is Bancor who are working on their V3 protocol. Scaling has often been a major pain point of Ethereum, the largest smart contract platform. However, the future is going to be a hotbed of innovation as Layer 2 scaling solutions such as Arbitrum, Optimism, Metis and Boba have been on the rise. Today we sat down and caught up with Jagdeep Sidhu, a core developer for Syscoin and Bradley Stephenson, a Syscoin Foundation Board Member. In the past couple of months, there’s been an explosion of DeFi projects. However, integrations between protocols are lacking and the current set of financial instruments are relatively simple compared to what we see in TradFi. One of these include, variable interest rates. Today, we got to talk to QiDao, one of the newer DeFi primitives that introduces fixed interest rates. Compared to variable interest rates, users can hold their debt for as long as they want and only have to pay a 0.5% repayment fee. This along with their ability to accept interest-bearing tokens as collateral brings new use-cases for interest bearing stablecoins and makes the protocol stand out from others. We also got to discuss the team’s inspiration in launching QiDao, the importance of decentralizing protocols as well as how it should be a collective goal to make DeFi easier to use.
