46: Tim Courtney Talks About Everything

46: Tim Courtney Talks About Everything

Topics Covered: OBM... check; Supervision...check; Medical necessity... check; Mens' fashion... What?!?! OK, let me explain. Tim Courtney of Little Star ABA joins me to cover what can only be considered a wide range of topics in Session 46 of The Behavioral Observations Podcast. Tim talks about how he learned about ABA by going to the gym, how he got started in ABA with the help of some key mentors, how he joined up with Little Star and became their Chief Operating Officer, and how they are implementing high quality ABA programs across a large number of clinicians and learners. Tim is a nationally recognized expert in the area of medical necessity, and regularly gives workshops on this topic across the United States. In this episode, he shares some tips on this in our discussion as well as answers questions from listeners. Little Star has also pioneered what they call an apprentice model of supervision, which from my point of view, seems like a win-win opportunity for both the aspiring behavior analyst and the organization. It has been so effective that Little Star does not actively recruit for BCBA's. As such, I couldn't resist asking some questions about this process, which was also written about in a recent issue of Behavior Analysis in Practice. Here are some links to tools and articles that Tim shared with us: BAP article Treatment Intensity Exercise PMA Experience Checklist The Mental Health Parity Act I hope you enjoyed this conversation as much as I did. There's definitely a round 2 in the works, so please feel free to let me know if you have additional questions for Tim!
