Integrative Medicine & Breast Health with Dr. Kristi Funk

Integrative Medicine & Breast Health with Dr. Kristi Funk

Apart from skin cancer, breast cancer is the most common type of cancer and and second leading cause of cancer death among women in the United States. However, many women don’t know that lifestyle factors—especially food choices—can reduce the risk of developing breast cancer and help after a breast cancer diagnosis. Today we’re joined by breast cancer surgeon and author Kristi Funk, MD, to discuss some of the choices your patients can make to improve their breast health and lower overall cancer risk and the Physicians Committee's Let's Beat Breast Cancer: A 4-Pronged Approach campaign. Dr. Funk is an expert in minimally-invasive diagnostic and treatment methods for all types of breast disease. She received her medical degree from the University of California, Davis, School of Medicine. She completed a surgical breast fellowship at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in 2002. She served as a surgeon and Director at the Cedars-Sinai Breast Center until 2009. That year, she opened the Pink Lotus Breast Center. ◘ Related Content Let's Beat Breast Cancer campaign https://www.pcrm.org/letsbeatbreastcancer ASCO endorses integrative oncology guidelines for breast cancer patients https://www.fredhutch.org/en/news/center-news/2018/06/asco-endorses-integrative-oncology-guidelines-for-breast-cancer-patients.html Increased Fiber Intake Decreases Premenopausal Breast Cancer Risk https://pediatrics.aappublications.org/content/137/3/e20154376 Six Yoga Poses to See You Through Breast Cancer Treatment https://www.yogajournal.com/lifestyle/healing-refuge The State of Integrative Oncology: A New Era https://www.ascopost.com/issues/february-10-2018/the-state-of-integrative-oncology-a-new-era/ Using Integrative Medicine Approaches for Cancer-Related Fatigue https://www.cancernetwork.com/patient-care/using-integrative-medicine-approaches-cancer-related-fatigue ◘ Transcript https://www.linkedin.com/pulse/transcript-integrative-medicine-breast-health-dr-funk-gw-office-of/ ◘ This podcast features the song “Follow Your Dreams” (freemusicarchive.org/music/Scott_Ho…ur_Dreams_1918) by Scott Holmes, available under a Creative Commons Attribution-Noncommercial (01https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc/4.0/) license. ◘ Disclaimer: The content and information shared in GW Integrative Medicine is for educational purposes only and should not be taken as medical advice.
