FEMINISM: Trans Liberation, Culture Wars and Class with Shon Faye

FEMINISM: Trans Liberation, Culture Wars and Class with Shon Faye

It’s Episode 2 of our Feminism mini-series and Floss is joined by the glamorous and hilarious genius that is Shon Faye. Shon is a writer, editor, journalist, and presenter known for her commentary on LGBTQ plus, women's and mental health issues. She hosts the podcast, Call Me Mother and is the author of the book, the Transgender Issue: An argument for justice. Floss and Shon deep dive into some thorny issues this week, exploring the culture war being waged against trans people in the media, what exactly a Radical Feminist is and addressing why trans rights are so divisive amongst both the left and the right. Shon- with her usual fluency and dry wit- also shares her insights into the significance of class-based solidarity, why the trans-community are used as a scapegoat when they comprise less than 1% of the population and how we can all be mindful of checking our own transphobia when including trans people within the feminist movement. At the end of the episode, Floss and Shon answer your questions on desirability politics and trans-liberation. Support your sisters not just your cis-ters!
