Episode 197: Quortney Kley Updates (with Gretta Morgan)

Episode 197: Quortney Kley Updates (with Gretta Morgan)

Back in 2021, both episode 49 and minisode #3 featured the story of 20-month-old Quortney Kley. On February 25, 1997, Quortney was sexually abused and murdered by her mom’s boyfriend, Cayce Williams. It took nine years for the legal case to end with Williams accepting a plea agreement in 2006, and he was released in 2021 after spending only 24 years behind bars for the violent sexual assault and murder of a toddler.

In this episode, you’ll hear my recent conversation with Quortney’s mom, Gretta Morgan, who has some disturbing updates for us about Quortney’s killer and some shocking revelations about Illinois’ sex offender registry. Quortney’s case is already overwhelming in its injustice, but today’s episode will boggle your mind.

Episode 185: Preventing Childhood Drownings (with Christi Brown)

Episode 185: Preventing Childhood Drownings (with Christi Brown)

From time to time, instead of covering an individual child’s story, I tackle a broader topic, such as my past episodes about hot car deaths and medical child abuse. While the topic of today’s episode doesn’t necessarily intersect with that of child abuse and neglect, it definitely intersects with this podcast’s purpose: to protect children. For this episode, I spoke with Christi Brown, the executive director of the Judah Brown Project. Christi is a mom who always thought she was protecting her kids from the dangers of water until her three-year-old son, Judah, died in 2016 from an accidental drowning that happened in the blink of an eye. If you think “That could never happen to me,” this episode is a must-listen.Links related to this episode:The Judah Brown Project website: https://judahbrownproject.orgThe Judah Brown Project on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/judahbrownprojectSend notes for Judah’s stocking this Christmas: https://www.facebook.com/photo?fbid=866887048947117&set=a.422232596745900Lifesaver Pool Fence: https://poolfence.comNational Drowning Prevention Alliance (NDPA): https://ndpa.org/ Photos related to today's episode can be viewed on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/sufferthelittlechildrenpod You can also follow the podcast on:Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/sufferthelittlechildrenpodTikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@STLCpodMy Linktree is available here: https://linktr.ee/stlcpod Visit the podcast's web page at https://www.sufferthelittlechildrenpod.com.By supporting me on Patreon, you'll also access rewards, including a shout-out by name on the podcast and exclusive rewards. Episode 184: Kinsleigh Welty

Episode 184: Kinsleigh Welty

When Indianapolis police responded to a 911 call for an unresponsive child on April 9, 2024, they couldn’t have guessed the horrific circumstances of the victim’s life and death. 5-year-old Kinsleigh Welty, who weighed only 21 pounds, was clearly malnourished. She had a bruise on her face and fecal matter on her body and matted into her hair, which was crawling with lice. Kinsleigh was pronounced dead at Riley Hospital for Children the same day. This is the story of yet another child failed by Indiana’s child welfare system. It’s also the story of yet another case of reunification gone wrong and a child who thrived in the care of others, only to die at the hands of a biological parent. Also in this episode, you’ll hear from Kinsleigh’s great-aunt, Carrie Hogan, who, along with many others, demands change from Indiana’s Department of Child Services. This is the gut-wrenching story of Kinsleigh Welty.Photos related to today's episode can be viewed on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/sufferthelittlechildrenpod You can also follow the podcast on:Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/sufferthelittlechildrenpodTwitter: https://www.twitter.com/STLCpodTikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@STLCpodMy Linktree is available here: https://linktr.ee/stlcpod Visit the podcast's web page at https://www.sufferthelittlechildrenpod.com. By supporting me on Patreon, you'll also access rewards, including a shout-out by name on the podcast and exclusive rewards. Episode 183: Fallon Fridley Updates (with Kristin Fridley)

In Episode 102, I told you the story of two-year-old Fallon Fridley, a precious little girl in Georgia whose babysitter, a close family friend, tortured and killed her in December 2020. The attack was caught on the babysitter’s in-home video surveillance system, and police found incriminating search terms on Kirstie Flood’s phone, such as “What does it mean to have a sudden urge to beat a child that’s not yours?”Today, I have several updates for you in Fallon’s case, including plea deals, sentencing, and more. You’ll also hear my recent conversation with Fallon’s mom, Kristin Fridley, who has been to hell and back over the past four years but manages to remain grateful for the blessings in her life. Links discussed in this episode:My Magic Mind link: https://magicmind.com/BYLAINE20 (and use discount code BYLAINE20 at checkout)Law & Crime Network video with interrogation footage: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OwrP1XA6dNw Justice for Fallon Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/JusticeForFallonThe National Organization of Parents of Murdered Children: https://www.pomc.org  Kristin’s GoFundMe: https://www.gofundme.com/f/urgent-help-for-kristin-fridley-her-family Photos related to today's episode can be viewed on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/sufferthelittlechildrenpod You can also follow the podcast on:Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/sufferthelittlechildrenpodTwitter: https://www.twitter.com/STLCpodTikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@STLCpodMy Linktree is available here: https://linktr.ee/stlcpod Visit the podcast's web page at https://www.sufferthelittlechildrenpod.com. By supporting me on Patreon, you'll also access rewards, including a shout-out by name on the podcast and exclusive rewards. Episode 182: National Children's Alliance (with Teresa Huizar)

Episode 182: National Children's Alliance (with Teresa Huizar)

The National Children's Alliance (or NCA) is a Washington, D.C.-based network of almost 1,000 Children’s Advocacy Centers (or CACs) across the United States. These centers offer crucial services to children affected by abuse, providing them with a safe space to share their stories and access a diverse team of professionals, from health practitioners to law enforcement. CACs have trained nearly 1.6 million people in child abuse prevention, and last year alone, CACs served over 380,000 children. But with this year’s $600,000 cut to the Victims of Crime Act funding, CACs now face dire challenges. In this episode, you’ll hear my conversation with Teresa Huizar, CEO of the NCA, to discuss what these cuts mean for CACs and the vulnerable children who rely on them. We explore how these centers operate, the impact of the funding loss, and various child abuse-related topics. Teresa’s insights emphasize why advocacy and support for these centers have never been more urgent.Photos related to today's episode can be viewed on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/sufferthelittlechildrenpod Cover photo by Nathan Dumlao on Unsplash. You can also follow the podcast on:Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/sufferthelittlechildrenpodTwitter: https://www.twitter.com/STLCpodTikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@STLCpodMy Linktree is available here: https://linktr.ee/stlcpod Visit the podcast's web page at https://www.sufferthelittlechildrenpod.com. By supporting me on Patreon, you'll also access rewards, including a shout-out by name on the podcast and exclusive rewards. (Re-Release) Episode 141: Cali Anderson

(Today would be Cali's 12th birthday, so I'm re-releasing this episode in her honor.)On May 15, 2018, police responded to a self-storage facility in Sacramento, California, where, in one of the storage units, sat a box containing a blue plastic barrel, inside which was a duffel bag. In that bag were the remains of a small child who appeared to have been dead for at least two weeks. Police tracked down the couple who left the box in the storage unit, Tyler and Averyauna Anderson of Reno, Nevada, and arrested them for the murder of Tyler’s five-year-old daughter, Cali. This is the story of a little girl whose stepmother hated her so much that she kept Cali handcuffed in a dog crate in the bathroom and slowly, over the course of several years, starved the little girl to death. It’s also the story of a man who doesn’t deserve the title of “father,” because he did absolutely nothing to protect his own daughter. This is the horrific story of Cali Anderson. Episode 181: Vayda Vasquez

When Vayda Vasquez was a month away from turning two, her custodial maternal grandma trusted her overnight with a long-time family friend, Kellie Barthel. The following morning, after several 911 calls from Kellie’s residence in Stanton, Michigan, police responded and found little Vayda unresponsive. She was pronounced dead at the scene. This is the story of a sweet, happy little girl who loved dancing, “Baby Shark,” and listening to her mommy sing. It’s also the story of a woman who valued her meth and alcohol cravings over the life of a joyful, much-loved toddler. Also in this episode, you’ll hear from Vayda’s mom, Danielle Maybee, who has turned her life around in the four years since Vayda’s death. Episode 180: The West Memphis Three (An Interview with Dan Stidham)

Episode 180: The West Memphis Three (An Interview with Dan Stidham)

On the evening of May 5, 1993, three eight-year-old boys—Stevie Branch, Michael Moore, and Christopher Byers—went missing in West Memphis, Arkansas. The next day, in a nearby wooded area, the boys were found brutally murdered, bound, and submerged in a drainage ditch. The horrific nature of the crime shocked the community, and police quickly arrested three local teenagers—Damien Echols, Jason Baldwin, and Jessie Misskelley—based on a coerced false confession, no solid evidence, and Satanic panic. This is the story of three innocent children whose lives were stolen in an unspeakable act of violence. It’s also the story of three wrongfully convicted teenagers who spent 18 years in prison, one of them on death row, for a crime they didn’t commit—the victims of a flawed justice system and a community in the grip of fear.In today’s episode, I’m honored to discuss a case that has gripped me for many years with the one man who has been involved since the beginning: Jessie Misskelley’s original defense attorney, case advocate, and author of the recent book, A Harvest of Innocence: Judge Dan Stidham. This is our discussion about his book and the tragic case of the West Memphis Three.A Harvest of Innocence by Dan Stidham on Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/Harvest-Innocence-Untold-Memphis-Murder/dp/B0CMYZ2BT7 Judge Stidham’s website: https://www.danstidham.com Email Judge Stidham with information about the case: harvestofinnocence@outlook.comTruth & Justice with Bob Ruff podcast: https://www.truthandjusticepod.com Paradise Lost documentary series: https://www.max.com/shows/paradise-lost/d509d74f-3c01-4367-9a42-a3aece5de4c9 The Forgotten West Memphis Three docuseries: https://www.imdb.com/title/tt12092348/ West of Memphis documentary: https://www.imdb.com/title/tt2130321/ Photos related to today's episode can be viewed on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/sufferthelittlechildrenpod You can also follow the podcast on:Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/sufferthelittlechildrenpodTwitter: https://www.twitter.com/STLCpodTikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@STLCpodMy Linktree is available here: https://linktr.ee/stlcpod Visit the podcast's web page at https://www.sufferthelittlechildrenpod.com. By supporting me on Patreon, you'll also access rewards, including a shout-out by name on the podcast and exclusive rewards.
