Bavarian Podcast Works — Postgame Show: Bayern Munich 0-1 SL Benfica (FIFA Club World Cup)

Bayern Munich fell short against Boca Juniors, the legendary Portuguese side, 1-0, in the FIFA Club World Cup. While Bayern Munich will still qualify for the Round of 16, this defeat means that Bayern Munich drop to second best in the group. Lacklustered attacking efforts by the original lineup, could not be redeemed in time by a far better substitution performance. In this podcast:

  • We look at the lineup put out by Vincent Kompany and how it held back Bayern’s attack
  • Talking about Leroy Sané’s nightmare-ish performance
  • We discuss the absence of Jamal Musiala on the pitch
  • We discuss how Bayern Munich can improve in the knockout stage
  • We discuss the impact of the weather and how the future venues will continue to impact the Bavarians

Another work week is almost in the books and, as always, Bayern Munich provided a lot of material for us to ponder. A whole lot.Somehow, Thomas Müller testing positive for COVID-19 again became one of the more normal stories of the week. Here is what we have on tap for this episode: Examining the report on Julian Nagelsmann’s desire to make a back-three based formation permanent. Jamal Musiala’s transition to the central midfield. The wild rumors surrounding Erling Haaland, Corentin Tolisso, and Serge Gnabry.Bayern Munich’s begrudging evolution to becoming a selling club. Marcel Sabitzer’s future is on shaky ground with Bayern Munich.A guest appearance from Javi Martinez for a new segment called “Dong Watch”...okay, I’m kidding (no, we will not be discussing Javi’s bulge breakdown).A quick take on “The Book of Boba Fett.”Be sure to stay tuned to Bavarian Podcast Works for all of your up to date coverage on Bayern Munich and Germany. Bavarian Podcast Works: Postgame Show — Bayern Munich 4-1 Greuther Fürth (Ruckrunde)

Some much needed positivity is back in the Bayern camp and here on our podcast! Bayern Munich dismantled Greuther Furth with a dominant 4-1 victory that featured a brilliant second-half performance and a gameplan that Nagelsmann should stick to for prolonged success. The substitutions and the tactics in this game were spot on, and it showed on the scoresheet.Robert Lewandowski had another brace, which is just the same as saying “bread is bread and cheese is cheese”, Jose Mourinho style. In other words, just another routine game for the Pole, who continues to cement himself at the very top of football’s annals. The defense was also very solid, with Süle having a great showing, Upamecano and Pavard having something of a redemption arc starting to materialize, Hernandez being his usual solid self and Omar Richards looking very bright. So yeah, loads of talking points, and the podcast features quite a few of them:The starting lineups and the formations of both teamsThe tactical changes brought in by NagelsmannThe game in the first half and the dire need for changes and substitutionsThe setup in the second halfA tactical masterclass, and Gnabry being not so terrible for once (!!!!)A look at the performances of Sabitzer and RichardsLooking aheadLearn more about your ad choices. A loss, a draw, and some turmoil: This was really not your average week at Bayern Munich.Fans are irritated, the front office is clapping back at the media, and everyone from Julian Nagelsmann to Dayot Upamecano is being called out to improve.FC Hollywood is back, baby! This is what we have on tap for this episode:The five things we learned this week, including: Bayern Munich’s front office might be getting too sensitive, Serge Gnabry’s place on the squad could be in doubt, Nagelsmann isn’t happy with the teams transfer strategy, Bayern Munich is prioritizing a leader at center-back and an attacking player for the right defensive flank, -- and I learned that I don’t believe the coaching staff and squad planners are fully in alignment with how to put this team together.A look at how excited I am for the start of Better Call Saul to start back up in April.Be sure to stay tuned to Bavarian Podcast Works for all of your up to date coverage on Bayern Munich and Germany. Bavarian Podcast Works: Postgame Show — RB Salzburg 1-1 Bayern Munich (Champions League Ro16)

Bavarian Podcast Works: Postgame Show — RB Salzburg 1-1 Bayern Munich (Champions League Ro16)

After the devastating defeat to VfL Bochum, Bayern Munich have failed to bounce back by slumping to a disappointing 1-1 draw against RB Salzburg. Matthias Jassile and his men will actually rue the chances they missed as Bayern failed to mount any kind of pressure and only scored thanks to a moment of brilliance from Benjamin Pavard and Thomas Muller. With things looking dire on the pitch, coach Julian Nagelsmann has some tough questions to answer. Here are our talking points from the game:Is Julian Nagelsmann a fraud? Let’s examine that. The return of the back three and why that sucks. A quick review of each defender — Lucas’s masterclass, and Niklas Sule is probably in BVB already. Why doesn’t Omar Richards get chances? Why doesn’t Nagelsmann keep it simple? Once again, Serge Gnabry was terrible. Should we sell him? The problem with the offense, how Leroy Sane’s positioning affects Thomas Muller and that causes issues elsewhere. Robert Lewandowski is isolated — why???Can Bayern hope to defeat Manchester City or Liverpool playing like this? Benjamin Pavard’s offensive duties and why he’s overextended. YOUR opinion: Comment on what’s going on with Bayern right now. Bavarian Podcast Works: Preview Show — Bayern Munich vs RB Salzburg (Champions League Ro16)

The Chaaaaaaaampionnnnssssssss!!!!! Yes, the UCL is back, and I can already hear the anthem. Bayern Munich is going to face a talented RB Salzburg side, and unless the lineup is legit, it is going to get exposed by Salzburg’s attack, which features players Bayern has been linked to in the past - Karim Adeyemi and Brenden Aaronson. With Goretzka, Neuer, Davies, and Musiala all out, Nagelsmann definitely faces a tricky challenge and needs to make the right choices in both defense and midfield to churn out a victory. The game against Bochum was one to forget, and consolidating a spot in the top 8 of the UCL with a dominant, resounding victory against Salzburg in the first leg could do a lot to make amends and help us quickly forget that disaster class. The stage has been set. We roll. Here are the main talking points of the podcast:Salzburg’s form heading into the gameNagelsmann’s tactics, formation, and what needs tweakingA look at some of the talented Salzburg players and potential game-changersThe defensive conundrum, and possible picks for selectionBayern lineup predictionsSome Gnabry and Upamecano criticismA final scoreline predictionLearn more about your ad choices.
