The Montessori Approach with Dr. Cameron Camp

Dr. Cameron Camp is the Director of Research and Development at the Center for Applied Research in Dementia. Dr. Camp is the creator of Montessori-Based Dementia Programming, an innovative approach to activities programming and daily life interactions that combines rehabilitation principles and educational techniques using the physical and cognitive abilities available to individuals. This method has proven very successful in engaging persons with dementia, as well as utilizing the person-centered care approach. It was a privilege to interview Dr. Camp and learn about his background, how the Center for Applied Research and Dementia supports those with dementia and their loved ones, we learn about the founding principles of Maria Montessori and how those principles are integrated in care for a loved one. We look at shifting our focus from negative outcomes to what positive effects this method is producing and the great work that is being implemented through Dr. Camp and his team. We talk about how creating a community that offers choice fosters the best outcomes and creates a living environment we all strive for in person-centered care.
