Nottingham Forest 2-2 Stoke City: The 1865 Match Report

Nottingham Forest 2-2 Stoke City: The 1865 Match Report

1865: The Nottingham Forest Podcast is proud to partner with FanHub and The Terrace. We predicted that this would be a tough match against an in-form Stoke team, and so it proved. Forest were second best in the first half, but held on, and actually took the lead before the hour mark when sub Sam Surridge played a ball out to the left wing, and Max Lowe's peachy cross was converted by the onrushing Brennan Johnson. The visitors equalised through Josh Maja, and a combination of the woodwork and Brice Samba kept the Reds in it. The last 5-10 minutes were another story though; just as Steve Cooper made his last two attacking substitutions, Samba got himself stupidly and deservedly sent off for cuffing Josh Tymon around the head. Joe Worrall took the gloves and his first duty was to pick the ball out of the net from Lewis Baker's penalty. However, Forest just keep going, and when Jimmy Garner's free kick hit the bar, Scott McKenna got his head to it and Ryan Yates converted from close range to rescue the point. Rich Ferraro is joined by Baz to discuss the match, the keeper, the pitch invader and the referee, as well as the pick of the Reds players. We also hear a view from the opposition, as we are once again joined by Ben Rowley from Stoke podcast The YYY Files. Blackburn Rovers 0-2 Nottingham Forest: The 1865 Match Report

Blackburn Rovers 0-2 Nottingham Forest: The 1865 Match Report

1865: The Nottingham Forest Podcast is proud to partner with FanHub and The Terrace. Another enjoyable away day sees Forest move into the Championship playoff places for the first time this season, continuing the remarkable turnaround Steve Cooper has masterminded since arriving at The City Ground. A first-half goal from James Garner and a penalty from Brennan Johnson in the closing minutes of the match secured a 2-0 success for the Reds, who took the game to Blackburn with a mixture of skill, guile and determination and were rewarded with the points against a side who are well in the mix for an automatic promotion spot. Steven is joined by Tom and they talk about the brilliance of Keinan Davis, Garner's reward for his fine recent performances, the warrior-like spirit from the back three and more examples of how Cooper is simply getting it right as Forest boss. Nottingham Forest 4-1 Leicester City: The 1865 Match Report

Nottingham Forest 4-1 Leicester City: The 1865 Match Report

1865: The Nottingham Forest Podcast is proud to partner with FanHub and The Terrace. An extended match report on a special day at the City Ground as a first-half salvo saw the Reds blitz Premier League Leicester and progress to the Fifth Round of the FA Cup. Goals from Zinckernagel, Johnson, Worrall and Spence gave the home team a comfortable cushion that was only briefly threatened when an error from Brice Samba saw Kelechi Iheanacho pull a goal back just before half-time (the pigeon was awarded MOTM for the away team). Rich Ferraro and Baz talk through the goals, the performances, Warrior Worrall and also the less savoury moments such as the violence of Leicester fans in town and at the ground. We also talk about how this result will mean little unless the newly beefed-up squad can keep picking up the points in the League, starting at Blackburn on Wednesday. Transfer window special: The 1865 Nottingham Forest Podcast

Transfer window special: The 1865 Nottingham Forest Podcast

1865: The Nottingham Forest Podcast is proud to partner with FanHub and The Terrace. Nottingham Forest's transfer window saw new players arrive at the very beginning (Keinan Davis, Steve Cook), middle (Richie Laryea) and end (Sam Surridge and Jonathan Panzo). Just as importantly a number of players left, including Joao Carvalho, Lyle Taylor and Carl Jenkinson, along with more recent acquisitions Rodrigo Ely and Mo Drager. However, the highest profile transfer activity was the retention of Brennan Johnson, with the Reds resisting a big money offer from Brentford, and also Djed Spence for the rest of the season. Rich Ferraro is joined by Steven Toplis and our very own new signing, the Cycling Defender to discuss incomings, outgoings and retentions. We also discuss the loss of skipper Lewis Grabban due to injury, and whether the last month demonstrates that the club are now being more strategic with how they are building a squad. We don't even have time to discuss the FA Cup tie against Leicester or forthcoming six pointers in the league. Cardiff City 2-1 Nottingham Forest: The 1865 Match Report

Cardiff City 2-1 Nottingham Forest: The 1865 Match Report

1865: The Nottingham Forest Podcast is proud to partner with FanHub and The Terrace. A bad day for Forest at Cardiff as they failed to turn up, conceding a cheap early goal and never really recovering. Jordan Hugill was given the freedom of the Reds' half after just six minutes and made no mistake, and more lax defending in the second half saw sub Isaak Davies score a second goal after the hour mark. Realistically, the match was over, although a late chance for Xande Silva and a stoppage-time consolation from Keinan Davis offered brief glimmers of hope. Steve Cooper acknowledged that Forest only had themselves to blame and it was possibly the Reds' worst showing since the gaffer took charge. Also worryingly, senior players Steve Cook and Lewis Grabban succumbed to injury, with the skipper taking the brunt of a robust challenge from Will Vaulks and being helped off the pitch in some pain. In this extended match report, Rich Ferraro and Steven Toplis discuss the Reds' poor performance, a couple of questionable refereering decisions, and also whether the injury situation will force Forest's hand on the last day of the transfer window. Nottingham Forest 3-0 Barnsley: The 1865 Match Report

Nottingham Forest 3-0 Barnsley: The 1865 Match Report

1865: The Nottingham Forest Podcast is proud to partner with FanHub and The Terrace. Forest continued their winning ways by seeing off bottom side Barnsley in front of a bumper Tuesday evening crowd of 27,000 at The City Ground. After a quiet opening, Forest took the lead on 15 minutes when Keinan Davis dispossed Mads Andersen, before striding through and slotting the ball into the corner for his first goal in a Reds shirt since joining on loan from Aston Villa. Steve Cooper's side doubled their lead seven minutes before the break as Ryan Yates finished off a flowing move, which involved an incisive Jack Colback pass to release Brennan Johnson down the left, where he put a superb cross in which Yates tapped home, timing his run into the box perfectly. A slow start to the second half saw little action but Forest stepped it up again and added a third on 75 minutes. Djed Spence carried the ball down the right flank, seeing off the attention of several Barnsley defenders, he rolled the ball inside where Johnson stroked it first time into the far bottom corner to cap off a comfortable victory. The Reds saw an effort by Steve Cook saved and a Xande Silva strike hit the post as they went on to secure a win which moves them closer to the Championship playoff places. Steven is joined by Tom Newton to reflect on Forest's win, including the influence Brennan Johnson is having on the side, how Forest got the job done on the night and Steve Cooper's post-match comments, where he made reference to 'that' Charlton game and was keen to avoid a repeat, following the high of the Derby victory on Saturday. Nottingham Forest 2-1 Derby County: The 1865 Match Report

Nottingham Forest 2-1 Derby County: The 1865 Match Report

1865: The Nottingham Forest Podcast is proud to partner with FanHub and The Terrace. A derby day that had the lot; a Forest win, drama, memorable goals and even a bust-up at the end! This Saturday lunchtime clash saw Forest secure a 2-1 victory over Derby and extend their unbeaten run against their rivals to 10 matches. Forest lined up without the injured Joe Worrall, so Ryan Yates moved into the back three alongside Steve Cook and Scott McKenna, whilst ex-Derby man Max Lowe made his return from the sidelines at left wing-back. However, an uninsipiring start saw Steve Cooper switch to a 4-3-2-1 formation in the first half, but aside from a huge miss by Derby's Tom Lawrence, the opening 45 didn't offer much. The second half got off to a flyer, as Lewis Grabban netted his third goal in as many games and 13th of the season, pouncing after Cook's attempted shot was blocked into his path. With eight minutes remaining, Brennan Johnson started and finished a fine move, exchanging passes with Philip Zinckernagel before firing into the bottom corner of the net for 2-0. Derby pulled a goal back from the penalty spot through Lawrence, at which point the midfielder was barged out of the way by Brice Samba (sporting a headband after a previous accidental clash with the Derby no. 10), sparking a heated clash inside the goal. The visitors, in the midst of their well-publicised off-field issues, couldn't find an equaliser. Ravel Morrison was given a straight red for a reckless challenge on Zinckernagel, while at the final whistle another melee broke out as the Forest players and fans enjoyed their victory, with the Reds retaining the Brian Clough Trophy. The Maradona of the Midlands is joined by Baz and Steven to talk over an eventful East Midlands Derby, where they look at the tactical battle of the first half, Forest's improved second half showing, the brilliance of Brennan's goal and Samba having the Derby players on strings. Transfers, tactics and TikTok: The 1865 Nottingham Forest Podcast, January 2022

Transfers, tactics and TikTok: The 1865 Nottingham Forest Podcast, January 2022

1865: The Nottingham Forest Podcast is proud to partner with FanHub and The Terrace. We've already had some exciting match reports for you since the turn of the year, but this month's discussion gives us a chance to reflect further on two outstanding results, as the Reds bounced back from Covid and back-to-back league defeats: Tactics: the Arsenal and Millwall victories suggest that Steve Cooper has a blueprint of "keep it solid then strike" - or at least, they do when they have a full squad available. We also discuss how the Reds are able to keep going for 90+ minutes. Transfers: Forest struck early in the window, making two solid-looking signings in Keinan Davis and Steve Cook, with full-back Richmond Laryea following shortly afterwards and Djed Spence seemingly extending his stay at the City Ground. Will there be any outgoings though? We also show appreciation to veteran skipper Lewis Grabban, and compare his captaincy style to the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo, Paolo Maldini and Zlatan Ibrahimovic. There's still time to pay our respects to local broadcasting legend Colin Slater, discuss a 5-a-side team made up of the kids of ex-Forest players, and Jeremy Davies joins us with his monthly sketch. Plus we have another game of Guess That Red, and you know what - we're on TikTok - how did that happen?
