Evolution of postmodern ERP to composable ERP explained

Evolution of postmodern ERP to composable ERP explained

In 2013, Gartner introduced the idea of postmodern ERP, forecasting a shift from traditional, monolithic ERP systems to more flexible, primarily cloud-based business applications. Now, a new term from Gartner—composable ERP—is gaining traction among ERP vendors and industry analysts. But is composable ERP merely a rebranding of the previous concept? Few individuals can answer this question better than Mike Guay. As an analyst in Gartner's ERP practice, he played a key role in shaping the concept of postmodern ERP. He also contributed to the early conversations about composable ERP before leaving in 2020 to become vice president at Infor, an ERP provider that positions its Infor OS as a platform for industry-specific composable ERP. Guay joined SearchERP news editor Jim O'Donnell and Dave Essex for an extensive discussion about the evolution of ERP architectures in recent years, the integration technologies that enable composable ERP, and the impact of the ongoing transition from on-premises software to the cloud.
