Kristen has started preparing for her big book convention in March and has started packing her books. Natalie is working on her remodel while using public transportation to get around which doesn't make it easy. Karen finally saw Maze Runner: The Death Cure and cringed when she saw the stunt where Dylan got hurt. Angel season 4, episode 18, “Shiny Happy People” -Synopsis -We love Gina Torres, but Jasmine has got to go. -It was really frustrating to see them all under her power. -Cordy is unconscious, so that's an improvement for her storyline...sadly. -We would love for Cordy to wake up and slap some sense into these people. -Crack theory time! -Was Angel infatuated with his granddaughter (Ewww) or was it just a version of hero worship? -We really want Fred to figure this out and save the day. -Gina Torres may have come to us all at different times, but we're all grateful for her awesomeness. -Favorite Scenes -Favorite Lines Buffy season 7, episode 18, “Dirty Girls” -Synopsis -Xander's dream is as icky as Cordy's pregnancy. -This episode was a huge disservice to the series' overarching message about the value of women. -Faith is back in Sunnydale! -We are all on board with more Faith and Spike, whether its as bickering siblings or straight up allies. -Wait, didn't Buffy close the door on Giles last episode? Why is he still chiming in? -We explain how Faith and Dawn know each other even though they've never appeared in an episode together. Superfans: Karen and Natalie Newbies: Danielle?? and Mitch Fun Facts: Danielle's Angel superfan mom has been low-key spoiling her about Angel lately, Natalie bought a ton of really awesome vintage swimsuits that makes her look like a girl in a '50s advertisement, Mitch is watching American Horror Story (the Roanoke season) and misses Jessica Lange, and Karen is celebrating the fact that ReWatchable has just reached its 250th episode milestone! (Yay us!) Buffy Season 7, Episode 17, "Lies My Parents Told Me" -Synopsis -Natalie LOVES this episode, and so she's pretty happy to be here rn. -These episodes originally aired out of order because of current events (even though they were produced in the right order). -Spike's mom is more relevant to Buffy and her relationship with Spike than is explicitly stated, and it's weird. -This episode is "another rock on the pile" in showing just how different Spike is to other vampires. And apparently he was always different from the very beginning. -Crack Theory: Spike's vampire demon was actually a person who was sent to the Bad Place who didn't actually belong in the Bad Place so that's why he's different and more sensitive. -Was Nikki in the wrong for saying/believing that the mission is the only thing that matters (putting that above her child)? -Natalie gives the canonical (and non-spoilery) backstory for Nikki. -Is Buffy a terrible person for now saying that she'd let Dawn die now if it meant saving the world? -Giles is a pod person and Danielle is not accepting any other explanation. -Will Wood and Spike face off again? Where will Wood go from here? -Fun fact: Spike/William was going to call Jack the Ripper to take care of his mom. -Favorite scenes -Favorite lines Angel Season 4, Episode 15, "Orpheus" -Synopsis -Faith injecting herself: Clever or too convenient? (Or too confusing?) -The Faith and Angelus show is hilarious -Willow and Fred have a bit of chemistry, but Willow makes it SO weird. -So, the Angel writers totalllllllly wrote Willow like she was high. -Allyson and Alex were engaged during this crossover, which makes sense because their chemistry was off the charts (especially in comparison to how little they've interacted on the show[s]). -Cordelia and Willow's little catching up scene mirrors when Rat Amy and Buffy catch up once Rat Amy isn't a rat. -Willow kicks things into high gear without losing control, which is really comforting. -That big scary floating face? Not so scary. -Dear Faith, your heroes aren't perfect. You don't have to be either. -Natalie wants a supercut of all of the flashbacks that have ever happened on Buffy and Angel. Like a legit movie. -Does Angel have to fight for his right to party (and to have his soul put back)? -Mitch wishes that Angelus had killed Fred. -Cordelia's storyline is the worst. Karen has been watching all sorts of old movies, but particularly Sidney Poitier's back catalog. Kristen is thoroughly charmed by a red carpet picture of Kristen Bell and David Harbour. Natalie will be in NYC for Avengers: Infinity War and Karen is now making plans to try and join her. Buffy season 7, episode 15, "Get it Done": -Synopsis -Miranda/Chloe commits suicide and Mitch's childhood is sobbing hysterically. -Kennedy gets a bit of a reality check when she sees what happened. -Spike's jacket is from Principal Wood's mother, AKA a former slayer and Principal Wood makes a comment about it that is a really nice throwback. -Kristen doesn't think Spike has put two and two together yet, but it's only a matter of time and enough heavy handed hints. -D'Hoffryn is hunting Anya. -Buffy makes a vicious speech to the entire group and it seemed slightly out of character, honestly. -Karen defends Buffy's hopeless attempt to pump up the troops because she's worn down and maybe just lost her filter in those moments. -Enter the emergency kit with an "impossible to open" lock. -So much Slayer lore talk! -Where in the world is Watcher Rupert Giles? (sung to the Where in the World is Carmen San Diego theme song) -Willow spooks Kennedy when she steals a bit of energy from her for the portal spell. -Willow makes a strange joke about being the one to bring Buffy back, and it reminds us of all the complexity of the first time she brought Buffy back. -More Slayer lore talk...especially about the origins of the first slayer. -Favorite Scenes -Favorite Lines Buffy season 7, episode 16, "Storyteller": -Synopsis -First we get Natalie's general thoughts about this episode -Was this episode too light-hearted about some truly dark happenings? (AKA exploding student?!) -Karen loves the Andrew-ness of this episode. -Andrew has a very active imagination and we enjoyed the dancing in the field. -We debate the integrity of Andrew. Where do his allegiances truly lie now? -We feel like the sole remaining Trio member has a greater purpose. -In the end, Andrew admits to himself and Buffy that he did some truly evil things and we aren't sure how we feel about it. -Xander and Anya have sex. Wait, what? -Is this closure for them or just another development? -Spike vs. Principal Wood: Who should we cheer for? Will there be an ultimate confrontation? -Defending Spike: the Rewatchable story. WHAT A GREAT VILLAIN. -Angel is actually observant, but maybe he isn't willing to use everything he knows -Angel needs to actively work on being good; it's not in his nature -"I need that on a pillow." -The soul is missing: DUN DUN DUN -Gunn and Fred break up -- angry, sad, happy, all the emotions -Stick to your guns, Gunn -Lilah has been a JOURNEY -"He does love a convent." -Fred's character has taken a few steps backwards. Where is her agency? -Wes continues to be the worst -DB is a great actor. Such a great actor. -Was the spell actually just to trick Lorne? -Cordelia who? Natalie is listening to her entire CD library and is having a few Glee feelings as well. Kristen mainlined The Crown while Karen was away for Christmas and is having major Claire Foy feelings. Karen watched the first two episodes of Black Mirror and was beyond impressed with them, especially when it comes to the aspect ratio details. Buffy season 7, episode 13, "The Killer In Me": -Synopsis -Mitch gives us his first impressions of Rat Amy's return. -Kennedy the manipulator. -Willow may have needed a little push to get back out into the world. -Imagine if you found yourself in the body of someone you had wronged. Talk about freaky. -Rat Amy returns! -Amy is not the hero, but has a little bit of justification for her actions. Just a little. -Giles is ALIVE! A true shock. -If it was First!Giles, does he have superquads or something or does sitting on the table not count as touching things? -Poor Spike is in some serious pain thanks to the malfunctioning chip in his head. -The newbies put in their predictions for what we think Buffy's going to do about the chip. -Favorite Scenes -Favorite Lines Angel season 4, episode 11, "Soulless": -Synopsis -Fun fact: Sean Astin, aka Samwise Gamgee, aka Bob from Stranger Things, directed this episode. -Cordy's character has been reduced to who she sleeps with and we are not okay with it. -Every time Connor enters a scene everything comes to a grinding halt. Ugh. -Angelus is awful/awesome and we love seeing how he affects everyone... on a story level. -Did Cordy ever intend to fufill her end of the bargain with Angelus? Or was she in full manipulation mode the whole time? -Gunn walks in on Wes and Fred post-kiss and Natalie is totally done with all of them. -Kristen gives us her pretty interesting theory as to who stole Angel's soul. -And then Mitch gives his crack theory as well. -Favorite Scenes -Favorite Lines Listener Feedback: -Some complaints about the "dream" from last episode. -"Apocalypse Nowish" may have been a terrible episode, but it made for some great podcasting. -An interesting question about Dawn and her potential to be a slayer with her complicated origins -Wow, Lucas. Just wow. -We are both excited and a little bit sad about the end of Buffy and Angel, too.
