Natalie has never seen Gilmore Girls and is vacationing in a hotel that was once the hospital where Alan Turing was born. Buffy the Vampire Slayer season 2 episodes 21 and 22, “Becoming Part 1” and "Becoming Part 2": -Newbie reactions: Mitch should have seen it coming! Brittany was underwhelmed. -Angel's origin story, there wasn't much human there to destroy -Ryan Murphy totally ripped off this vampire lore -Dru in the real world had visions, she already had the power before she became a vampire -The Buffy extended universe is worth exploring -Dru has some of her best moments in this episode, but she is still the worst -Angel's backstory was quite horrible until he met Whistler -Angel is incredibly awkward and lived in a bin for 90 YEARS, he has no personality -Let's chat about vampire personalities -Rewriting history from the Buffy movie and the less-than-attentive watcher -Man, Giles is so great compared to this guy -Low-key Buffy stalking leads him to become a hero -Sibling couples? But it also makes Buffy apart even more than before -Willow's dark magic is setting her apart a bit more from Xander by giving her more agency -Xander flies off the handle with his motives -All villains want to destroy the world! But have they thought this through? -Kendra dies and it is so frustrating -Apparently Jenny was not a major character... -_- -But Principal Snyder is so strange and unfortunately alive -Xander and Willow and Oz, love triangle? -When are vampires good and vampires bad? -Joyce now knows what is going on: we have mixed reactions on Joyce -Angel is not worthy, but gets the secret from Giles through torture -Spike is useful up to a point, but then bounces with Drusilla who passes out because she can't breathe? Join us as we discuss Buffy the Vampire Slayer season 2, episode 17, “Passion,” and episode 18, “Killed by Death.” Superfans: Selina and Karen Newbies: Mitch and Kristen Fun Facts: Mitch saw Hamilton (to the jealousy of everyone who still hasn't been able), Karen had a fun fact planned that she forgot due to yummy beverages the night before, Kristen has a box of DVDs that weighs more than a couple of small children, and Selina is rewatching Battlestar Galactica while nursing a fever just like Buffy in Killed by Death. Buffy the Vampire Slayer season 2, episode 17, “Passion”: -Synopsis -Newbie reactions: Kristen and Mitch both found the big death abrupt. -Angel's monologue about passion narrating the episode: Love it or hate it? -Should Buffy tell Joyce about the supernatural threat? -Does not telling Joyce put her in danger that she wouldn't be in otherwise? -Buffy and Joyce: Is Joyce trying not to be a helicopter parent or does she just not try? -Jenny and Giles are so, so close to happiness...and then Angel rips it away. -The scene in Giles' apartment is so beautifully disturbing. -When Willow cries, we cry. This episode definitely instigated a few teary eyes. -Angel is blissfully happy at the same time and it's so incredibly creepy. -Are we all equally emotionally invested in this episode? -The floppy disk gives us hope despite so many other hopes being dashed. -We are focused on everyone's reactions to Jenny's death, rather than the event itself. -Giles the badass and his need for vengeance. -Favorite Scenes -Favorite Lines Buffy the Vampire Slayer season 2, episode 18, “Killed by Death”: -Synopsis -Newbie reactions: Kristen was scarred forever by the creepy guy and Mitch was creeped out by the eye suckers. -This is a skippable episode for Selina, while Karen tries to convince us that it has its own merits. -The lack of Angelus might be one reason we don't love this episode as much. -The creepy guy is very Freddy Krueger-esque. -Cordelia and Xander have a moment, and she calls him out on his Buffy fixation. -Xander and Cordelia are truly starting to care for each other, and that changes things. -Cordelia is slowly being unveiled as a vital part of the Scooby gang. She is really into this now. -Selina fills in a gap that was puzzling Kristen. -The Scooby gang killed this villain differently from how they've gone at it before. -Favorite Scenes -Favorite Lines Listener Feedback: -Gordon references #NationalPuppyDay's coincidental overlap with "Passion." -We remind everyone who the newbies and the superfans are, and how you can double check who is who on every episode. -Mandi tells us we're the best part of her Monday. Buffy the Vampire Slayer season 2, episode 11, "Ted": -Buffy fans do not come back to these episodes for a reason -Is this a "bad episode" quality-wise or do we just hate "Ted" -John Ritter is Brittany's first celebrity death -Joyce jumps too quickly to think the worst of Buffy -They have the opportunity to showcase a really strong mother daughter relationship -the camera work after Buffy mentions she wants to kill herself was... harsh -Ted is dead, but he is actually dead -It's hard to watch, but Ted will stick with you -Ted is important to have a backdoor- Buffy would be a different show were Ted to be a human -This contrast between Monster and human now exists -But let's actually talk about the police involvement: -Where is the line between evil human and demon? Ted was drugging people after all... -Cordelia and Xander ship it or sink it? -Does this change the way Xander and Buffy interact? -Jenny and Giles forever. -Favorite scenes -Favorite quotes Buffy the Vampire Slayer season 2, episode 12, "Bad Eggs,": -Wait, do we like "Ted" more than "Bad Eggs"? Opinions have changed! -Ban eggs, all eggs -This teenage drama plot line is one of our favorites -Did anyone do this in high school? -Is this a "bad" episode? -Buffy and Joyce's relationship is horrendous in this episode -But should Buffy tell Joyce about the slaying?
