Did we like Tracey flirting with her? -We wish Inara had a bigger role this episode. -We also wish there had been more flashbacks to the time they were all in the war together. -How dumb do you have to be to have someone scoop out your organs and replace them with organs you’ll be transporting? -Did we really think they were going to give Tracey up to the alliance? -Yep, some of our hosts still think Shepherd Book is evil. -Why did Tracey go his separate way from Zoe and Mal? -Should there have been more action at the end? -The real star of this episode is Jayne’s hat. Talk about intrigue! -Mal meets up with an old friend, Monty, only to discover that Saffron is scamming him. -Should the crew have trusted her? -Inara VS Saffron. Episode #10 - 'Firefly' 1x10 'War Stories'
ReWatchable is here for another episode! This week we discuss the tenth episode of Firefly, “War Stories.” Don’t forget that this podcast is spoiler-free, featuring both Firefly fans and newbies. So it’s safe for everyone to listen! Shownotes: -What did newbie Kyle think of the episode? -It seems like a very traditional, male-centric action heavy episode – until Zoe comes in as the knight in shining armor. And we kind of love her for it. -What does this episode offer us, even if it’s not one of our all-time favorites? -How did we like this different kind of opening to the episode? -It was nice to see Kaylee and River interacting, finally. -An unhappy Wash is a mean Wash. We comment on his dislike for Zoe's war stories. -Who thinks Mal and Zoe have some sort of chemistry? -Wash versus Zoe: Who did we side with? -Was Wash really that incompetent when he was out on the mission, or is that just his defense mechanism? -Kyle steers the conversation into Teen Wolf territory. (Like we’re surprised.) -Laura is very annoyed by the blindfold. -Why was the torture scene so hard to watch? -Did we think people were going to die in this episode? -Laura posits a very good question to the team about Zoe and her loyalties had she not been married to Wash. -What about if it was Wash and someone besides Mal? Episode #8 – ‘Firefly’ 1×08 ‘Out of Gas’
ReWatchable is here for another episode! This week we discuss the eighth episode of Firefly, “Out of Gas.” Don’t forget that this podcast is spoiler-free, featuring both Firefly fans and newbies. So it’s safe for everyone to listen! Shownotes: -We all loved this episode! -3 timelines going at once. Was it confusing or easy to follow? -First theories about what happened to the crew before we see the flashbacks. -Shepard book telling funny stories, but Kyle isn't laughing because he thinks he's EVIL. -We're still theorizing about how River can predict things. -Who do we side with when Zoe is knocked out? Mal or Wash? -We love the relationships we see with Simon and Inara, and Mal and Kaylee when they realize they're dying. -Even Jayne gets emotional, despite still being selfish. Selina really likes him this episode. -Kyle still thinks Jayne isn't the evil person and that Shepard Book is the one who's going to turn on everyone. -Which shuttle would you ride in? Kyle picks Simon's, obviously. -When Mal warns Inara not to trust Jayne, is that foreshadowing to something? -We were screaming for Mal and Inara to kiss during their last moment together. Why didn't they?! -Maybe because Mal's true love is Serenity. We ship Marenity, no pun intended. -We didn't like the scene with Mal and the crew of the "savior" ship. Too unrealistic! -Selina thought they all died and Mal was in limbo when he woke up -The crew's trust in Mal is amazing. The family is like space-cowboy Brady Bunch -We discuss the flashbacks. Our favorite part being Wash's porn stache. -Kyle wonders if they ever tell us how Zoe goes from not liking Wash to marrying him. -Inara is worth the risk to bring her on, plus Mal really wants her. ;) -Kaylee's introduction was so unexpected! Kyle wonders why she's so nervous around Simon. -We like but also don't like Jayne's origin story. Why trust him? -Kyle thinks they're trying to make us hate Jayne while in reality Book is the evil one later in the show. Nice try, Whedon, Kyle sees your ways! -That's why Book's hair is so big, it's full of evil. -We share out favorite quotes and our favorite scenes. -Fun facts about the episode. -Feedback from Haley, thanks Haley! Kristen is surprised because she didn’t really care about learning Jayne’s backstory. -We like the episode for Jayne, but especially for all the Simon moments too. -It’s funny that Kaylee is talking about being improper when she always seems so innocent. -Selina thinks Karen sounds like one of the characters from the show! -Was Kristen surprised that the episode ended up being about Jayne as a hero? -Caitlin brings up an awesome parallel that the other hosts hadn’t picked up on. -Is Inara having to bed the Magistrate’s son too much of a coincidence? -We all love Inara and the way she handles herself. -Was Kaylee hoping to take advantage of the opportunity of Simon drinking so he wouldn't remember what happened? Or is it because his inhibitions are gone? -Why was Simon so worried about being caught with Kaylee? -River versus Book’s hair has to be one of the best and funniest scenes in this episode. -Kristen thinks Canton should just be called Mud. -We all imagine what Firefly would be like if it were on HBO. -Selina sees a couple of instances where this episode parallels Les Misérables. -It’s amazing to see Jayne affected by the events in this episode. -We’re all happy they didn’t rush the Kaylee and Simon relationship. -We share out favorite quotes and our favorite scenes. -We lament that Tariq wasn’t on this week given how much Simon love was going around. -Selina is still bitter that her ship hasn’t worked out. -We talk about our favorite pairings. -A listener feedback this week talks about how strange it is everyone in Canton still had faith in Jayne despite hearing Stitch’s story. Episode #6 - 'Firefly' 1x06 'Our Mrs. Reynolds'
ReWatchable is here for another episode! This week we discuss the sixth episode of Firefly, “Our Mrs. Reynolds.” Don’t forget that this podcast is spoiler-free, featuring both Firefly fans and newbies. So it’s safe for everyone to listen! Shownotes: -Everyone rates the episode differently - Tariq gives it a thumbs up, Karen gives it a thumbs down, and Caitlin gives it a thumbs sideways. Laura, ever the superfan, says it's one of her favorite episodes. -We all feel that Mal's behavior in this episode just solidifies what we already thought of him. -We all love seeing Inara on more of a human level, with a lot more emotion. -Nearly everyone is surprised Inara is the only one rushing off to find Mal. -Do we think Inara was falling for Saffron's tricks before the alarms went off? -Laura points out a possible mistake in the position of the doors for Mal's room and Zoe's room. -We all love woozy Inara. -We wonder if Inara feels relief or annoyance that Mal didn't realize she kissed him. -Laura tells us which Mad Men actress is in this episode. (And Tariq tells us what Andrew tweeted that made him want to watch the show.) -Were we surprised that Saffron was a bad guy? -Were the townies from the beginning of the episodes in on Saffron's scheme? We're confused. -Laura then asks us a loaded question: Is Saffron amoral or immoral? -There's been a huge debate about the fact that Mal hit Saffron at the end of the episode. We weigh in. -Then Laura tells us about a crazy conspiracy theory. (Read the essay she refers to here -- but at your own risk!) -Did we miss Simon and River? -Tariq feels self conscious about sharing his theories since he's a newbie (Hint: He still thinks Shepherd Book is evil.) -Of course there are Jayne and Vera fics. Of course. (And Caitlin approves. Check one out for yourself.) -Karen is wary of Jayne's viciousness. -Laura and Tariq wonder exactly how the poisonous lipstick works. We have theories. -Next up is "Jaynestown"! Laura warns us against "The Ballad of Jayne." How did you like "Our Mrs. Reynolds"? Where does it rank with you as an episode? Episode #5 – ‘Firefly’ 1×05 ‘Safe’
ReWatchable is here for another episode! This week we discuss the fifth episode of Firefly, “Safe.” Don’t forget that this podcast is spoiler-free, featuring both Firefly fans and newbies. So it’s safe for everyone to listen! Shownotes: - From the newbies: Kristen and Tariq both can't get enough of Simon, so they loved this episode. Oldtimer, Caitlin gives this episode a big thumbs up too. On the other hand, it's not one of superfan Laura's favorites. - Again Mal’s dialogue seems to dominiate our favorite lines, but the iconic "Big Damn Heroes" is Laura's favorite. - Given that we are a third of the way through the series, has our opinion of any of the characters changed? Caitlin is loving the Simon and River dynamic more and more. Kristen loves Jayne and hopes he's not really bad at heart. Tariq is more convinced than ever that Shepherd Book is evil and will end up turning on everyone. He also has come to respect Inara. - The episode has two way different story-lines: the crisis with Book and the kidnapping. The kidnapping clearly held our attention more. -Yes, that is Zac Efron in his screen debut. We restrain ourselves from bursting into a chorus from High School Musical. -The flashback was helpful because it's the first time we see non-crazy River. We also see how fantastic the sibling relationship between Simon and River has always been. We think we like River more now because the flashback fleshed out her character more to us. -Simon is a bit of a puzzle, but we like him. We wonder how much guilt and anger he is carrying around. Does he always deal with current circumstances on the ship and with River in the best way? -Simon can be arrogant and judgmental. Where do we think that comes from? -Because Inara likes Simon, and she's generally a good judge of character aside from Atherton Wing, we think we tend to forgive Simon for his faults and how he treats Kaylee. -Maybe Simon just needs a teddybear and a hug. He's got no one to tell him "it's going to be all right." -When the crisis happens with Shepherd Book, did people think Simon and River would be on their own for a couple of episodes? - We are all puzzled by Shepherd's mysterious "get out of jail free" card. -Surely the card is not give to all Shepherds. What did he do to warrant such special treatment? -If he is evil what is his end game? Why wouldn't he leave Serenity and go with the Alliance? -How stupid is the Alliance? -Next episode is "Our Mrs. Reynolds," and a familiar face from Mad Men will be in the episode. How did you like "Safe"? Where does it rank with you as an episode? Comment on this post, email us at rewatchable.podcast@gmail.com, or tweet us @Re_Watchable.
