James Lim Talks Competing On Survivor, Sprinting at Harvard

James Lim Talks Competing On Survivor, Sprinting at Harvard

James Lim was born in Los Angeles but grew up in Seoul, South Korea. He returned to the U.S. at 16 years old and started sprinting at Andover Phillips Academy and was hooked on the sport. He attended Harvard, studied economics, walked onto the track team and served as a captain. While at Harvard, he convinced a friend to apply together for The Amazing Race. He was close to competing on that show but was asked by CBS to apply for Survivor's 36th season. James and I connected in New York City over lunch (so I could get some inside tips on how to get on the show) and then recorded a podcast in Union Square Park. On this show, we discuss: How he ended up on Fiji competing on Survivor: Ghost Island What is it like for a runner to compete on the show? Would Ashton Eaton be the best competitor on that show? How closely does he follow the sport of track and field and who impresses him the most? What tips would he have for me to win the show? How does he convince someone to watch Survivor and what makes more than just a reality TV show? Where does someone go to the bathroom when they're being filmed and stranded on an island? And much more... You can catch the latest episode of the podcast on iTunes so subscribe and leave a five-star review. Nick Roché on Chasing an Olympic Marathon Trials Qualifier While Balancing A Full-Time Job

Nick Roché on Chasing an Olympic Marathon Trials Qualifier While Balancing A Full-Time Job

For this fun episode of the CITIUS MAG Podcast, I decided to take a few minutes during Boston Marathon weekend to sit down and chat with my buddy Nick Roché. He's not a well-known name in the track and field scene but I'm impressed by his drive to chase an Olympic Marathon Trials qualifier while balancing a full-time job with Adidas. He ran in college at Gonzaga and got back into training recently. He shares what re-invigorated his passion for the sport on this episode.  “It was in the lead-up like Week 8 of a build-up for Berlin, where you’re not broken yet from the miles and workouts," Roche says. "You’re still feeling good and thinking, ‘Man, I’m gonna smash this thing.’ It hit me that this is something that I enjoy doing again. It’s been great ever since. Just trying to build off of it, get better each time and make the most of that race opportunity. I don’t think I did the best job of that in college because you’re racing so much.” Nick made his marathon debut at the 2017 Boston Marathon and ran 2:36:18. He lowered it at the 2017 Berlin Marathon to 2:27:25. “I think it would be completely outrageous to to expect a nine to 10 minute PB every single time but I’m going to train and shoot for a nine to 10 minute PB every single time with that said.” Nick is a very funny guy and I think this could be a relatable episode for those who balance full-time jobs and lofty running goals. The alternative title for this episode is two normal guys shooting the shit at the Sheraton in Beantown. NOTE: This was recorded before the Yankees started being very good. ------- This episode was brought to you by Maurten. Fuel properly for long distance races! we recommend Maurten. Noah Lyles On Being A Rising Star For U.S. Sprinting, Turning Pro Young, The Office

Noah Lyles On Being A Rising Star For U.S. Sprinting, Turning Pro Young, The Office

With just days until the start of the Diamond League season, we're joined by U.S. sprint star Noah Lyles on the CITIUS MAG Podcast. Noah sat down with us while he was in Boston during marathon weekend to promote the Adidas Boston Boost Games (May 19-20). At 19 years old, Noah ran 19.90 for the 200 meters in his Diamond League debut. In 2016, he was fourth in the U.S. Olympic Trials 200m final where he ran a U.S. HS record of 20.09. We talked about his rise to sprinting fame and the decision to turn professional early. He never got a chance to race Usain Bolt on the track but shares a funny story about running into him at a doctor's office. Noah isn't one for "idols" in the sport and so he shares how he perceives his competition. Talk strays for a bit and Noah discusses how he watched 13 Reasons Why on Netflix with Jarrion Lawson + Noah's love for The Office. All that and more in the latest episode of the CITIUS MAG Podcast.
