Kristie Schoffield Joins Team NB Boston + How She Nearly Left The Sport Before Becoming An NCAA Champion
"You are not inferior to your coach. You have to see yourself as equals because you're working together toward whatever goal that you're working toward." Kristie Schofffield is the NCAA outdoor 800m champion from Boise State. She is also the newest rookie Team New Balance Boston. She had the best year of her career last year by stunning the field and kicking to the NCAA outdoor 800m title. It came just eight months after making a coaching switch and nearly taking a break from the sport. Her rise to the title was not a straightforward path, as she faced challenges and self-doubt along the way. In this episode, she talks about how she overcame that process and then pushed herself to break two minutes for the first time at the U.S. Outdoor Championships final. She will be making her professional debut this weekend when she races the 800m at the New Balance Grand Prix. Molly Huddle After Running 1:10:01 At The Houston Half Marathon – After Having A Baby Nine Months Ago
“It’s hard to not compare yourself but so much has changed. It’s not to say that you can’t get back there – trying to take a different route may get you somewhere better. I’m focusing a lot more on the marathon going forward too. Before, I had bounced back and forth from the track to the road. I think that will maybe help us maybe maximize myself there. That’s probably the one event I probably have a PR left in. Reinventing myself a little bit by focusing on that.” This is Molly Huddle's is her first time back on the CITIUS MAG Podcast since being guest No. 6 way back in March 2017. She recently made her postpartum return to high-level competitive racing and just finished an impressive fifth place at the Houston Half Marathon in 1:10:01 – almost nine months after welcoming her daughter. She secured her mark for the 2024 U.S. Olympic Marathon Trials. Join us as we talk about her journey back to the starting line and what it takes to balance motherhood and elite running.
