HE Is Back in Avengers: Doomsday and Marvel’s Playing the Hits Again

HE Is Back in Avengers: Doomsday and Marvel’s Playing the Hits Again

Spoiler warning up top: Frank reacts to the Avengers: Doomsday teaser that’s currently playing in theaters and the big headline that comes with it, Chris Evans returning as Steve Rogers. The hype is real, but the conversation gets complicated fast, especially when you zoom out and ask what this says about Marvel’s confidence in the post Endgame era. Frank also unpacks the idea (and the risk) of Doomsday being framed as a direct sequel to Endgame, and what a “soft reboot” after Secret Wars could mean for the MCU’s future.

  • 00:00:00 Spoiler warning and initial reaction to the Avengers: Doomsday teaser and Chris Evans returning

  • 00:00:16 The excitement vs. the bigger worry: what this says about Marvel after Endgame

  • 00:00:32 Russo Brothers calling Doomsday a direct Endgame sequel and what gets left behind

  • 00:00:46 “Soft reboot” talk after Secret Wars and how Marvel rebuilds trust going forward

  • 00:01:14 Does this undercut Sam Wilson and the newer era of the MCU?

  • 00:01:56 Listener comments requested for the next episode

  • Chris Evans returning as Steve Rogers hits hard emotionally for a lot of fans.

  • The bigger concern is what this signals about Marvel’s confidence in newer characters and newer phases.

  • Positioning Doomsday as a direct sequel to Endgame raises questions about how much of Phase 4 and 5 will matter.

  • The “soft reboot after Secret Wars” idea makes comic sense, but it also feels like Marvel resetting the board to safer territory.

  • There’s a real tension between hardcore fan concerns and what mainstream audiences will likely love without overthinking it.

  • If Steve comes back, it opens a big conversation about legacy, leadership, and whether Sam Wilson gets pushed aside.

  • “Hell yeah, Chris Evans is back as Steve Rogers.”

  • “This means that basically Marvel doesn’t trust anything they put out after Endgame.”

  • “It’s not like Steve Rogers doesn’t always come back in the comic books.”

If you’ve got thoughts on Chris Evans returning, the Doomsday teaser, and whether this helps or hurts the MCU long-term, send them in. Avatar Coming to Disneyland

Avatar Coming to Disneyland

Disney CEO Bob Iger announced on Tuesday that the company is set to launch a new attraction based on the Avatar franchise. He referred to it as the “Avatar Experience” and promised that more details will be “coming soon”. This move by Disney comes as part of the company’s restructuring effort which includes 7,000 layoffs and a goal of reaching $5.5 billion in cost savings. The Avatar franchise has become a core part of Disney’s success, as James Cameron’s Avatar: The Way of Water has grossed over $2.17 billion globally and is currently ranked fourth among the highest-grossing movies of all time. With Avatar 3, 4, and 5 set to release in 2024, 2026, and 2028 respectively, the franchise has a lot of potential to leverage its success across various business lines and territories. Disney’s parks continue to be the driving force behind the company’s growth, both in terms of revenue and operating income. For the first quarter of 2023, the parks division saw revenue close to $8.8 billion, a 21% increase from the previous year, and operating income rose by 25% to over $3 billion. This was a significant contribution to the company’s overall performance, accounting for all of its operating income and making up about a third of the total revenue. The Avatar films take place in the visually stunning world of Pandora, a lush alien world whose atmosphere is toxic to humans. The films feature the Na’vi, the inhabitants of Pandora, who are primitive in appearance but highly evolved. Avatar: The Way of Water takes place 16 years after the first film and follows the story of Jake Sully, played by Sam Worthington, as he raises a family with Neytiri while serving as the chief of the Omatikaya clan. Disney’s new Avatar Experience is sure to offer fans of the franchise a new and exciting way to immerse themselves in the world of Pandora. With the success of the Avatar franchise and Disney’s continued growth in the parks division, the Avatar Experience is likely to be a huge hit.

Costner Leaves Yellowstone

Costner Leaves Yellowstone

Paramount Network, Paramount Global, and Taylor Sheridan, the co-creator and showrunner of the TV series “Yellowstone,” are planning to end the show but are considering a franchise extension to continue the “Dutton Saga.” Matthew McConaughey is in talks to star in the new show, and it is expected that some of the prominent cast members will also move to the new series. The current show is facing issues with star Kevin Costner over shooting schedules, which has caused morale problems for the other cast members. Paramount Network has declined Costner’s recent proposal for shooting his parts in a week and decided to move on to the new show. McConaughey’s franchise extension is still in negotiations, and it’s unclear whether it will be set in Montana or elsewhere. The new show will air on the linear cable channel Paramount Network and stream exclusively on Paramount+. There are several other shows in the “Yellowstone” universe, including prequels, sequels, and standalone shows. Source: Deadline

Swamp Thing

Swamp Thing

James Gunn and Peter Safran have announced a new Swamp Thing film, part of a fresh slate of DC projects. The movie will delve into the dark origins of the character and feature other DC characters as well. The film will be more horrific in nature but will still have Swamp Thing interact with other characters. Swamp Thing was previously seen on the small screen in a short-lived TV series and in a 1982 film directed by Wes Craven. The character is a humanoid/plant elemental creature that resembles an anthropomorphic mound of vegetable matter and fights to protect the swamp home, environment, and humanity from supernatural and terrorist threats. -------------------- *Check Out All Our Podcasts!* Geek Freaks Podcast: https://linktr.ee/GeekFreaks Pushing Buttons: https://linktr.ee/PushingButtonsPodcast TrekFreaks: https://linktr.ee/TrekFreaks Headlines: https://tinyurl.com/2p8bvu6d Geek Freaks Interviews: https://linktr.ee/GeekFreaksInterviews Outlast Podcast: https://linktr.ee/OutlastPodcast Round Three: https://linktr.ee/RoundThree Disney Moms Gone Wrong: https://linktr.ee/disneymomsgonewrong Sloop: https://www.patreon.com/GeekFreakspodcast -------------------- *Hang Out With Us!* Discord: https://discord.gg/6Jrvyb2 Twitter: twitter.com/geekfreakspod Facebook: facebook.com/groups/227307812330853/ Instagram: instagram.com/geekfreakspodcast E-mail: thegeekfreakspodcast@gmail.com Twitch: twitch.tv/geekfreakspodcast Site: thegeekfreakspodcast.com --------------------- *Support Us!* Patreon: https://patreon.com/GeekFreakspodcast Store: redbubble.com/people/GeekFreaks
