§ The actual definition of imposter syndrome is: the persistent inability to believe that one's success is deserved or has been legitimately achieved as a result of one's own efforts or skills.

§ Those with imposter syndrome doubt their achievements and abilities. They almost always have a nagging fear that they’re a fraud and others will see them that way. It can stand in the way of their own personal growth.

§ Think of it as – “I don’t belong here”, “I have no business being here”

§ It is something we have all felt at one point. It is actually very common, especially among those who are well accomplished at something (education, career, etc). Apparently, research has shown that around 70 percent of adults may experience imposter syndrome at least once in their life.

§ This can affect not only education, career, social abilities, but also romantically. If you do not feel you deserve to be there or are worthy of it you will run away from the opportunities.

§ Imposter syndrome is rooted in lack of self-worth, self-confidence and self-love. Those who feel it do not give themselves enough credit for their achievements, accomplishments and skills.

§ To overcome these feelings you have to change how you think about yourself and your abilities. Give credit where credit is due.

§ For example, be confident in your abilities to do something based on your accomplishments in the area without comparing yourself to others.

§ Some people try “faking it until you make it” but that does not help it only adds to the insecurity. What does work is believing in your abilities and confidence in who you are and what you have to offer.

§ TRY THIS: Write down an accomplishment and all the steps you took to get there including the work/time put into it.
