#5 STARTING OUR FIRST BUSINESS

#5 STARTING OUR FIRST BUSINESS

What happens when the pressure gets so intense that you snap?

Kirsty’s breaking point came offshore — stuck in isolation, overwhelmed, and staring down some dark sh*t. Quitting seemed like the only way out. But quitting meant risking EVERYTHING: bonuses, financial stability, and sanity. In that chaos, though, we realized something powerful: life doesn’t happen to you — it happens for you. Even in the darkest moments, we were manifesting a new path, one where breakdowns can spark breakthroughs.

We share the wins, the losses, and the messy-as-hell journey of launching Believe the Label. No sugar-coating. Just raw, real talk about how chaos can turn into something freaking amazing.

In this episode of Spill the Tea, we share:

01:15 - 07:35 Offshore Hellhole: Kirsty opens up about her darkest days. Working offshore during a brutal COVID swing, completely isolated and drowning under the pressure. The loneliness, the grind, and the endless uncertainty led to a total emotional breakdown. Was this just an emotional spiral or a wake-up call to change everything?

07:35 - 36:18 From Breakdown to Brand: With zero clue about fashion or business, we decided to create a clothing brand called Believe the Label. We knew we wanted to inspire people, but how the hell do you go from an idea to a product? Enter hours of Googling, late-night YouTube tutorials, and cold emailing manufacturers. We had to learn EVERYTHING and trust us, we made some painful mistakes along the way. But we were still able to make 30k on our launch day!

36:18 - 45:33 Marketing Mayhem: So we launched and after that initial hype - nothing. We threw money at ads that tanked, wasted hours on social media strategies that flopped, and questioned if we were totally delusional. But then Kirsty decided to take marketing into her own hands and BAM - we figured it out. Sales skyrocketed, and suddenly, we couldn’t keep up with demand. Success tastes sweet, but man, the learning curve was brutal.

47:33 - 1:03:58 Lessons in Resilience: Every step of this journey tested us. We learned the hard way that business isn’t about avoiding mistakes - it’s about surviving them. Pivoting, adjusting, and getting the fu*k back up when we fell. And through all the chaos, we grew. As business owners. As partners. As individuals. That’s why we started the We Breathe Success program — to help others push through their own sh*t and come out stronger.
