Colombia's Election Results: Who Won, Who Lost, What It Means

The results of Colombia’s latest congressional and presidential primary elections are in, and today I explain what they mean for the country’s political future. I break down how Colombia’s election system actually works (something that can seem confusing at first) and highlight the biggest surprises from Sunday’s vote.

I also look at the broader implications for the 2026 presidential race and for Colombia’s business climate. With the left rallying behind figures like Iván Cepeda Castro, the rise of outsider candidate Abelardo de la Espriella, and Valencia emerging as a major contender, the road ahead could reshape Colombia’s institutions and economic policy. If you’re an investor, executive, or simply someone trying to understand where Colombia may be heading politically and economically, this election offers some important clues.
