Joel Conner is the founder and director of Blue Swing Media & Epiq Video where he and his team use their digital marketing skills to help small businesses get seen on the web. When Joel started out as a web designer almost a decade ago, he used simple content marketing to rank his services on google. This included writing an occasional blog post, sharing a few things on Facebook, and listing his business with local directories. Over the years his web design firm grew and became more of a typical “we do everything under the sun” digital marketing agency. This came about because their client’s pretty websites on a brand-new domain were often lost in the vast ocean of the world wide web. They began helping their clients grow their web presence without charging the astronomical fees that other agencies would quote them for “SEO.” Paying a thousand dollars a month for content marketing makes perfect sense if you have a product or service that may bring in several thousand dollars a month per new client/sale, but not if your product is $10-$50 and you’re not currently being found online. So, after learning and testing PPC, Social Media Marketing, SEO, Backlink building, blogging, Video marketing and just about every other element of the digital marketing footprint, he found that “Content Marketing,” was by far one of the best investments for business when done properly. Since then he and his team have been dialing in best practices for how to best leverage content creation for their clients as well as their own projects. They are also expanding into professional video production with their newly launched Epiq Video brand.

If you are anything like me, I knew nothing when it came to marketing when I first started. Really! I didn't even give myself credit for the work I was doing to market my business, because I didn't know it was marketing. I've learned a lot since then. The tips that Joel shares in this episode are incredibly valuable for those who know very little about websites and search engine optimization (SEO).
