Ep. 278 - Captain Claire Lemisky Dash 8 Aircraft Expert

Claire Lemiski is a Training Captain and Approved Check Pilot at Porter Airlines. Her career has evolved around the Dash 8-400, from flight testing and flying a corporate shuttle at Bombardier Aerospace, to line flying and management at Porter, and international ferry flights during the pandemic. She is passionate about providing mentorship and encouragement to new and aspiring pilots. Claire is a member of the Ninety-Nines and a senior advisor with Women Soar at Porter. She was a recipient of an Elsie award from the Northern Lights Aero Foundation in 2015. When she's not flying, Claire enjoys making music, dragon boating, and volunteering in her community.

In this episode, you’ll learn: How airline pilots are trained and continually tested What happens in flight simulators and emergency training How aircraft are certified before entering service Why turboprop aircraft like the Dash 8 are extremely safe What pilots think about turbulence and safety in real time Why commercial flying is statistically one of the safest activities you can do If you are a nervous flyer, this episode will help you understand what is happening behind the scenes—so you can feel more confident the next time you fly.
