JHGC in Conversation with Author Daniel Lee on "The SS Officer's Armchair"

JHGC Education Officer, Mdu Ntuli, speaks to Dr Daniel Lee about his recent book "The SS Officer's Armchair: In Search of a Hidden Life" (Penguin Random House, 2020). This true story is based on documents discovered concealed within a chair for seventy years, and is a gripping investigation into the life of a single S.S. officer during WW2, Dr. Robert Griesinger, a lawyer from Stuttgart, who joined the S.S. and worked at the Reich’s Ministry of Economics and Labor in Occupied Prague during the war. In the words of Daniel Lee “most of us know the names of only a handful of Nazis who formed part of Hitler’s inner circle. What about men ... like Griesinger, who have so far escaped the attention of films, documentaries, and history books? ... Recovering lost voices from the past enables us to ask new questions about responsibility, blame, and manipulation (... and) offer previously neglected insights into the rise of Nazism and the inner workings of Nazi rule.” The SS Officer's Armchair: In Search of a Hidden Life is available in South Africa at https://www.penguinrandomhouse.co.za/book/ss-officers-armchair-search-hidden-life/9781911214984 and on Amazon worldwide ~ Please share your comments and questions!
