JHGC in Conversation with Dr Yaron Nir Freisager on Jewish ghettos’ writings in Poland

In this episode we engage in a conversation with Dr Yaron Nir Freisager. Dr Nir Freisager is an author, educator at Branco Weiss high school in Kiryat Shmona in Israel, as well as a lecturer at the Tel-Hai Academic College; he is also a history researcher specialized in Jewish ghettos’ writings in Poland during World War II, and a Research associate in the Institute for Contemporary Jewry, Hebrew University, Jerusalem. Dr Nir Freisager was in Johannesburg, hosted by the Johannesburg Holocaust and Genocide Centre, as a visiting scholar chosen as the inaugural fellow of the annual JHGC/Hebrew university/Sylt Foundation fellowship in Holocaust & genocide studies. The Johannesburg Holocaust & Genocide Centre, the Hebrew university in Jerusalem and the Sylt foundation have partnered to create an annual fellowship in Holocaust and Genocide studies, where a chosen scholar or academic will spend 2-4 weeks here in South Africa conducting or furthering their research on various aspects of the Holocaust and Genocide studies. After a lengthy process of selection, we are pleased to announce that Dr Nir Freisager is the first scholar chosen for this prestigious annual fellowship. In this episode, Dr Nir Freisager talks to us about his work, publication and his lecture and workshop he has conducted while in Johannesburg.
