Episode 182: Who is Your Personal Board of Directors?

This episode dives into a critical lesson and experience in growth: Your personal board of directors. This refers to anyone you let into your brain. That is, the people who influence your personal and professional decision making.

As much as you may see the value in calling for help when you need it, the truth is that getting support can still feel like more of a challenge than a relief. On top of that, most of the advice you probably receive isn't helpful because it's largely unsolicited, self-serving, and most people have no idea what they're talking about. All they know is their own perspective.

It's not pleasant to hear, but there may even be people within your circle who are waiting for you to fail. It may surprise you how often this is actually true. On the other hand, you may have people cheering you on so they can hitch onto your success, with a sole focus on how your growth can pull them along too.

Women are often seen as "business novices," even when they're the most brilliant business brains on the globe. A lack of skill and knowledge is never the problem—most women just need the nudge to unlock their own power and wisdom rather than seek validation and answers from outside sources.

You don't need a personal board of directors for advice, you need one because it's a great place to gather insight from people with the right criteria. This includes having high expectations of you, your best interest in mind, and a challenging perspective gleaned from experience.
