Episode 17 - Why High Performers Can’t Slow Down — Even When They Want To

Episode 17 - Why High Performers Can’t Slow Down — Even When They Want To

In this episode, we explore what “presence” actually means and why it’s becoming harder and harder to access in modern life, especially for high performers.

This conversation comes off the back of what’s been coming up in both of our lives and in the work we do with people, the constant pressure to do more, stay productive, and keep moving, even when there’s a deeper desire to slow down and actually be present.

We unpack what’s really happening underneath that restlessness, not just behaviourally, but internally and why so many people struggle to shift out of overdoing, even when they’re aware of it.

We dive into:

  • What presence actually is (beyond the concept of mindfulness)
  • Why high performers struggle to slow down, even when they consciously want to
  • The internal pressure that keeps people in constant motion
  • Why stillness can feel uncomfortable or unsafe in the body
  • The gap between awareness and embodiment
  • How conditioning and identity shape our ability to be present
  • The role of the nervous system in restlessness, burnout, and over-functioning
  • What actually supports the shift from doing into being
