Fer Sure - Episode 38: Kaitlyn Dividock
Here’s what Peter and Jay have for you this time (all time locations are without the opening ad): Seattle Expansion: (00:00 - 9:25) Since we took an extra week off, this is pretty old news, but we wanted to talk a little about the Seattle team and what it means for the rest of the league. New IIHF Rule (9:25 - 16:25) The IIHF announced a new rule on late hits. We talk about its merits and if it goes too far. Interview: (16:25 - 1:06:58) We talk to Kaitlyn Dividock from Pensburgh about a multitude of topics, from the Pengins mindset as Crosby and Malkin age, to a fact about Gritty that you won’t be able to un-hear. Christmas Characters Fantasy Draft: (1:06:58 - End) Jay and pick our starting lineup (plus 1 wildcard pick) of Christmas characters. Then we wrap up. WIIM Radio: The Youth Gone Wild Edition
The Wings since we last spoke - Detroit has been hot and then cooler since our last episode. We’ll cover the goings-on in detail Youth Gone Wild - The kids are stepping up for each other and that’s partially good (team building!) and partially bad (injuries/suspensions). We’ll talk through our feelings about this development. Around the League - Taking a look at the soon-to-be 31 other teams in the NHL, we’ll dedicate at least a little bit of time to those jerks. Positivity Corner - It’s key to keep making sure we do this, even if we’re already feeling pretty positive. Reader Questions - You ask the most-pressing questions on your minds and we’ll blow those minds with our great answers. My favorite part of every podcast. Wrapping Up/Looking Ahead - We’ll tell you how many games the Wings will win in the coming days. Guaranteed to satisfy or your money back. Learn more about your ad choices. Fer Sure - Episode 37: Meghan Hall and Hannah Burry from the Balls & Sticks Cast
Here’s what Peter and Jay have for you this time (all time locations are without the opening ad): Introductions: (00:00 - 17:59) Instead of having our traditional interview segment, we have Hannah and Meghan on the entire episode, but we start off with some getting to know you questions to introduce our listeners to our two guests. The Willenium Starts in Toronto (17:59 - 24:25) William Nylander signed at the last minute, keeping Meghan, who is a Toronto fan, from a horrible weekend. Here are our reactions to the situation. Jeff Skinner’s Next Contract: (24:25 - 30:45) Because Hannah is a Buffalo fan, we give Meghan a little chance to inquire about Jeff Skinner’s upcoming contract, and if it’s going to stress Hannah out like Nylander’s situation did with Meghan. Tom Wilson....Again....: (30:45 - 43:40) He just can’t help himself. Maybe he’s just a garbage player who continually throws predatory hits. Also, what players do we hate to hate? Coaching Carousel: (43:40 - 51:40) Coaches and GMs have lost their jobs recently. Which ones are the most interesting? Laine Lights the Lamp: (51:40 - 57:10) Patrick Laine recently had a 5 goal game, and after starting the season in a goal scoring slump, he now leads the league. Jay and I love watching Patrick Laine, but what are some other players who don’t play for the teams we root for that we enjoy watching? Game Time!: (57:10 - END) We haven’t done a quiz in a while, so I made one up that utilizes both stories from Sean McIndoe’s book The Down Goes Brown History of the NHL and stories I made up. Then, we wrap up. Remember, you can get Fer Sure t-shirts in a variety of colors and styles, hoodies, notebooks, stickers, and much more. Learn more about your ad choices. Fer Sure - Episode 36: James Edwards III
Here’s what Peter and Jay have for you this time (all time locations are without the opening ad): Quick Updates: (00:00 - 5:00) Spooner - Strome trade, TB goaltending problems. Hockey Hall of Fame Induction: (5:00 - 10:20) The HHOF induction ceremony happened recently, and we talk about why it would have been better to have it feature one fewer person. Concussion Lawsuit Settlement: (10:20 - 20:32) We try to discuss this complex issue and what it means going forward. Interview: (20:32 - 1:09:58) Our interview this week features the Pistons beat writer for the Athletic Detroit, James Edwards III. It was a real fun conversation from someone who is connected to hockey, but in a much less hardcore way than our usual guests. Reducing the Arbitrator to Fired: (1:09:58 - 1:18:31) Tom Wilson had his suspension reduced, and it’s dumb. Bruins / Blackhawks Jerseys: (1:18:31 - END) Winter Classic jersey talk, then we wrap up. If you are using a podcast app, you can find both this podcast and WIIM Radio (our podcast devoted to the Red Wings) in the same channel - Winging it in Motown. As of right now, you can’t find it on Google Play, but an app like Stitcher should work if you use an Android device for your podcast listening. Here is the link to our merchandise store. You can get Fer Sure t-shirts in a variety of colors and styles, hoodies, notebooks, stickers, and much more. WIIM Radio: The Hot Streak Edition
Welcome to our latest WIIM Radio mailbag. We’ll be recording our latest episode tonight with the plan to have it ready for your earholes tomorrow morning before the Wings take on the Senators. Here’s a list of topics we’ll get into: The Wings of the last two weeks - Six games down since we last recorded and five wins in that time has the Wings threatening to climb the standings and drop in the race for the best odds in next springs “Jack-pot”. We’ll talk about how the team is performing. The trends so far - We’re deep enough into the season to talk about what’s shaping up to look like trends Detroit takes a lot of penalties but their special teams has been good (coaching?). Is the change in curly fries qualification driving the outburst? Around the league - The Tom Wilson suspension got reduced, the William Nylander standoff continues, the concussion lawsuit is getting settled, and the NHL/NHLPA are talking labor war/peace. It’s the best of times; it’s the worst of times. Positivity Corner - Not sure we’ll actually need this, but I like doing it so you’re going to like it. Reader Questions - Our favorite part, where you submit all the best questions for us to answer and we give you the best analysis anywhere. If we haven’t already covered it, your question WILL get read and answered. Get those questions in before tonight and stay tuned for the episode to drop tomorrow morning. LGRW! Fer Sure - Episode 35: Micah Blake McCurdy
Here’s what Peter and Jay have for you this time (all time locations are without the opening ad): As I said in the quick pre-show audio, we had a connection issue in the non-interview portion, and you’ll hear some clipping in that section. We figured out the cause and fixed it for the interview segment, so that shouldn’t happen again in the future. Global Series: (00:00 - 10:40) The NHL played two games in Finland, following games in other countries earlier this season. Are these games helping? Winter Classic Location Ideas: (10:40 - 32:33) Speaking of playing games in other locales, where would be some fun, if unrealistic, locations for future outdoor games? Interview: (32:33 - 1:08:33) We talk to the person with likely the highest level of math understanding we’ve ever had on, but our guest Micah Blake McCurdy is also very good at explaining what he knows. We talk about his site hockeyviz.com, and he explains fancy terms like line graphs. Suspension Update: (1:08:33 - 1:12:03) It can be hard to keep track of who is suspended in the NHL. We’ve got you covered. Pettersson Earns the Ragnarok Award: (1:12:03 - END) The young Canuck turned in a 5 point performance the other night. We bestow a special award on him. Listen to WIIM Radio: The Kid Stays in the Picture Edition
Here's what we'll get into in this episode: Performance compared to expectations - The team has not done very well in the standings to start the season, but most of us expected that. Regardless of the standings, how is the team living up (or down) to our expectations? The Kid Stays in the Picture - Michael Rasmussen played his 10th NHL game this season, so this year will count as a year of his ELC. Was that the right decision? What have we seen from him so far? Lose for Hughes? - Detroit fans have to wrestle with this strange feeling of balancing the normal fan interest of wanting your team to win with the realistic view of knowing the team would benefit from the highest draft pick possible. How are we dealing with that dichotomy? What Else Is Happening? - There are a lot of other interesting storylines happening around the league. Which ones are we most interested in? Just how sick are we of hearing about Toronto? Positivity Corner - It seems we are going to need some positivity this season, so let’s have it! Reader Questions - What do you want to hear about? Ask us your questions, and we’ll give you our answers. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit podcastchoices.com/adchoices

Fer Sure - Episode 34: Sean McIndoe (Down Goes Brown)
Here’s what Peter and Jay have for you this time (all time locations are without the opening ad): Puzzle Hockey: (00:00 - 6:25) Jay has found a new way to waste time when he should be recording our podcast. Season Standouts: (6:25 - 25:16) Who are off to a great start, and how sustainable are they? Note: When discussing Carolina, I should have been more specific and used the term “shot attempts” as opposed to “shots,” because that might be confusing for some listeners. Interview: (25:16 - 57:18) This episode, our interview is with Sean McIndoe, aka Down Goes Brown. He has a new book coming out that you can pre-order on Amazon. We talk about some of the craziest things that have happened in the NHL. Way Too Early Predictions: (57:18 - END) Since teams have played about 8 games each, we obviously know enough to completely and accurately predict everything that will happen the rest of the way. Right? Then, we wrap up the show. Here is the link to our merchandise store. You can get Fer Sure t-shirts in a variety of colors and styles, hoodies, notebooks, stickers, and much more.
