(UK)an Not Make Acquisitions, Car Part Retailers Drive to Profits, and Japan’s Aging Population

In September 2020, Microsoft announced its intention to acquire video game company Activision Blizzard in a deal worth $68.7 billion. The acquisition was expected to make Microsoft one of the biggest players in the video game industry, as Activision owns popular game franchises like Call of Duty, Candy Crush, and World of Warcraft. The deal was officially completed on October 18, 2022, and Activision Blizzard became a wholly-owned subsidiary of Microsoft. The acquisition is seen as a strategic move for Microsoft to bolster its gaming division and expand its reach in the gaming industry. However, this deal is not official yet and we anticipate deals of this size and in tech to keep trending down. AutoZone is a leading retailer and distributor of automotive replacement parts and accessories in the US, with more than 6,000 stores across the country. The company's main competitors include Advance Auto Parts, O'Reilly Auto Parts, and Genuine Parts Company. AutoZone has a strong competitive advantage due to its extensive network of stores and its focus on customer service, which includes providing tools and diagnostic equipment to help customers fix their own cars. The company has been able to maintain high profitability through its efficient supply chain management, which allows it to quickly replenish inventory at its stores. A SWOT analysis of AutoZone would identify strengths such as its strong brand and supply chain, opportunities such as expanding into international markets, and potential threats such as increasing competition and potential disruptions in the supply chain. Japan has the world's third-largest economy, with a nominal GDP of $4.9 trillion in 2021. The country is known for its highly skilled workforce, advanced technology, and strong export-oriented manufacturing industry. However, Japan has struggled with economic stagnation, an aging population, and deflationary pressures in recent years. The government has implemented various policies, including monetary easing and fiscal stimulus, to revive economic growth and combat deflation. The largest companies in Japan by revenue include Toyota, Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group, Softbank, Honda, and Nissan. According to Forbes' Global 2000 list for 2021, the largest Japanese companies by market capitalization are Toyota, Sony, Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group, Softbank Group, and NTT Docomo.
