Isaiah 28:7-13 Is the Word Strange Speech to You? (May 31, 2026 AM, Dr. Michael Grasso)

"Why do some people hear the Word of God as life and glory, while others hear it only as meaningless noise?

In Isaiah 28:7–13, Isaiah describes the spiritual condition of Judah’s leaders as drunken, blind, and incapable of understanding the Word of God. To them, divine truth sounds like nothing more than “precept upon precept, line upon line.” The problem is not with God’s Word—it is with the hearts of those who hear it.

This sermon examines:

The spiritual blindness of Judah’s priests and prophets

The judicial hardening theme throughout Isaiah

Why the Word of God sounds foolish to unbelief

Christ’s use of parables as judgment

The meaning of “strange speech” and foreign tongues

Paul’s use of Isaiah 28 in 1 Corinthians 14

The clarity of Scripture and the responsibility of the hearer

Isaiah warns that when people refuse to hear God’s clear Word, God may give them over to confusion and judgment. But for Christ’s sheep, the Word remains the voice of the Good Shepherd and the words of everlasting life."
