Timothy Hudson reportedly told people after Anna Kepner's death that he couldn't remember anything. But the crime scene told a different story: Anna was found under a bed, wrapped in a blanket, covered with life jackets — deliberate concealment that requires conscious decision-making. This look back, with retired FBI Special Agent Jennifer Coffindaffer, examines how investigators read that contradiction and what it tells the FBI about the kind of case they're building.

Coffindaffer breaks down the behavioral profile — what it means when a crime scene shows planning and awareness alongside a suspect claiming total amnesia. She examines the alleged pattern that preceded that night: an ex-boyfriend's father publicly claiming he warned the family about concerning behavior, Anna reportedly not wanting to go on the cruise, and allegations of fixation that the "no warning" language in the prosecution's filing doesn't acknowledge.

Anna was eighteen, a cheerleader from Titusville with plans to join the Navy. Ship surveillance reportedly shows one person entering and exiting the stateroom. Her younger brother reportedly heard violent sounds from the locked cabin. The medical examiner ruled mechanical asphyxiation. And despite all of it, Hudson remains free — living with a relative on GPS monitoring, recently cleared to work, while prosecutors fight to revoke his release and Anna's father publicly calls for detention. Hudson faces first-degree murder and an additional serious federal charge. He has pleaded not guilty. We revisit where the case stood at the time of our reporting.
