Siders Kids Stayed Hidden By Doing WHAT?!

Siders Kids Stayed Hidden By Doing WHAT?!

A house in Hamden, Ohio held sixteen children the State of Ohio didn't know it had. That's where this one starts, and it doesn't get easier from there.
Deputies in Vinton County weren't hunting for kids the day they knocked. They were serving a warrant on something unrelated, and the state's own Attorney General has said outright that nobody walked in expecting to find children. No school district had these kids on record. No neighbor had ever flagged them. The oldest is eighteen years old and, per investigators, still can't write her own name — a detail that says everything about how long this went unnoticed.
Tony spends real time on what happened around that house, not just inside it. Store clerks noticed years of small warning signs and only put the pieces together once arrests hit the news. One neighbor, living seventy feet away, insists he never saw a single child there in six years — and probably means it. A psychotherapist explains the specific psychological wiring that lets people witness something wrong and file it under someone else's problem, again and again, without ever registering the choice.
Four adults are facing sixteen counts each of second-degree felony child endangering. Each has pleaded not guilty. No indictment has been handed up.
Then the episode zooms out to the system itself — a mandated-reporter law with no real enforcement, a funding formula that pays states for taking children but nothing for finding them, and a parallel case in Washington, D.C. that shows this failure isn't confined to one small county.
The kids were found. The system that was supposed to find them wasn't the reason why.
