The State of Wrestling 2026 | WWE, AEW, NJPW & More

Shane and Morro are back in the Gorilla Room to take stock of the wrestling world as we pass the halfway point of 2026.

Recent reports suggest that if WWE's television ratings continue to slide over the next couple of years, TKO President Mark Shapiro and company could begin putting real pressure on Triple H and Nick Khan heading into 2028. With Premium Live Event business remaining strong but Raw's year-on-year ratings declining, the lads ask whether WWE has a genuine problem on its hands, or if the concern is being overstated.

From there, the conversation widens to the rest of the wrestling landscape.

How has AEW fared in 2026? Has the company found its footing again, and where does it stand compared to WWE? The lads also discuss New Japan following its recent sale to TV Asahi, the current health of TNA, AAA, CMLL and MLW, before turning their attention closer to home.

Is the European independent scene beginning to build momentum once again, and could we be on the verge of another wrestling boom similar to the one that transformed the industry during the 2010s?
