What Changed For Bryan Kohberger After He Pleaded Guilty

Something changed for Bryan Kohberger between the day he pleaded guilty and the day he filed to take it back.

He was sentenced to four consecutive life terms after telling a judge he was pleading guilty because he was guilty. About a year later he filed a handwritten petition for post-conviction relief in Ada County District Court, representing himself, saying the confession was false and his innocence is the truth.

The petition alleges ineffective assistance of counsel and says his defense team never disclosed or reviewed evidence that would have helped him. It says he was given a grossly misleading picture of what a life sentence and death row in Idaho would look like. It blames threats, false promises and wrong information for the plea.
