Duxbury Firefighters Recall the Scene at the Clancy Home — Lindsay Clancy Trial

The Lindsay Clancy murder trial turned to the people who arrived first — the Duxbury firefighters and paramedics who walked into the Summer Street home on January 24, 2023, and tried to save what could still be saved. Clancy, 34, is accused of strangling her three children — 5-year-old Cora, 3-year-old Dawson, and 7-month-old Callan — with exercise resistance bands. She faces three counts of murder and three counts of strangulation, has pleaded not guilty, and is mounting an insanity defense through attorney Kevin Reddington, who argues she was in the grip of severe postpartum psychosis and psychiatric overmedication.

Captain PJ Hussey, a firefighter and paramedic dispatched to the scene, testified about what the response looked like from the moment crews arrived. Loring "Chuck" Nudd, a now-retired Duxbury EMT who was in the first ambulance on scene, described watching the children brought up from the basement and the aid his crew attempted on the spot. Keith Nette, a firefighter and paramedic, told jurors he worked to treat 3-year-old Dawson in the hospital. Three witnesses, three angles on the same impossible scene — and a jury that had to sit with all of it.

Prosecutors are expected to argue Clancy understood the nature of her actions despite the defense's mental-health claims. After the killings, Clancy allegedly attempted to take her own life by jumping from a second-story window, leaving her paralyzed from the waist down. Her husband, Patrick Clancy, was out of the home running errands at the time and has since relocated to Manhattan. The trial, underway in Plymouth Superior Court, is expected to last several weeks.
