Eine Studie hat untersucht, wie Menschen aus verschiedenen Ländern sehen, schmecken und riechen. Sie fanden große Unterschiede. Englische Muttersprachler können Farben und Formen wie "Dreieck" oder "grün" leicht benennen. Aber es fällt ihnen schwer, Geschmäcker zu erklären. Sie benutzen viele Wörter, um den Geschmack von bitterem Wasser zu beschreiben. Sprecher von Farsi, Laotisch oder Kantonesisch haben weniger Probleme damit. Diese Menschen essen oft verschiedene geschmackvolle Speisen. Einige Sprachen, wie das australische Umpila, haben wenige Wörter für Farben. Diese Menschen können aber gut Gerüche beschreiben. Folglich zeigt dies, wie unsere Kultur und Lebensweise beeinflussen, wie wir die Welt sehen und beschreiben.
