The Breadwinner (2026)

The Breadwinner (2026)

The First Lady returned to Movie Torture, and within minutes the movie review turned into an intervention for Brad.

Hannah reminded everyone that Brad once "fired" her from her Movie Torture trivia job, only for the people who replaced her to never actually do a single episode. Mark had the privilege of watching years of unresolved workplace drama unfold in real time, while Brad slowly realized this wasn't a movie review anymore—it was free therapy. Somewhere along the way Brad publicly apologized, Hannah accepted, and everyone agreed she's still the reigning First Lady of Movie Torture.

Before the movie even started, Hannah also revealed she still watches VHS tapes on an old tube television, buys random VHS lots off Facebook Marketplace, and somehow accidentally watched the wrong Air Bud movie for a previous episode. Instead of basketball, she watched the soccer sequel, leading to the only Movie Torture episode that accidentally reviewed two different movies at the same time. That's the kind of professionalism listeners have come to expect.

Then they finally got around to The Breadwinner, starring comedian Nate Bargatze. Everyone agreed Nate is hilarious on stage, but Brad immediately questioned whether making him the lead of a feature film was the right move. Mark compared him to comedians who work better stealing scenes than carrying an entire movie, while Hannah sat there wondering why the guys already sounded disappointed five minutes into the discussion.

The biggest mystery wasn't the plot—it was the budget. The movie reportedly cost $25 million, which left Brad completely baffled. His theory was that half the budget must have gone toward Toyota because every other scene looked like a commercial for the Tacoma. Hannah quickly looked it up and confirmed Toyota actually was a major sponsor, which only made Brad even more suspicious. At one point he was convinced the real title should've been The Breadwinner... Presented by Toyota.

The movie itself follows a successful car salesman who somehow doesn't know where his own kids go to school, can't remember to take out the trash, and appears completely incapable of surviving without his wife's color-coded schedule. Hannah defended the character by saying she'd watched the exact same thing happen in her own house growing up, while Brad and Mark couldn't understand how a man intelligent enough to become Salesman of the Year couldn't figure out how to make breakfast.

Everyone agreed the funniest scene was the Shark Tank sequence. Nate spends the entire pitch eating donuts while the Sharks slowly decide they like his wife far more than they like him. Brad couldn't understand why nobody seemed to appreciate Nate's charm, while Hannah pointed out that the Sharks had already decided he was a deadbeat husband before he even opened his mouth. The discussion quickly turned into real Shark Tank history, where they discovered the investors passed on Ring before Amazon bought it for over a billion dollars. Brad immediately wanted to go back and watch that episode just to see everyone's regret in real time.

The conversation drifted—as it always does—to Colin Jost, Scarlett Johansson, Mandy Moore, Daisy Duke, Ring doorbells, home security cameras, and whether Brad would've survived his mailman days if Ring cameras had existed back then. His conclusion? Twenty years ago he could toss a package onto your porch from halfway down the sidewalk. Today he'd have to gently place it on the welcome mat while smiling for the camera.

By the time Nate's wife finally left for Korea and trusted him to run the household, everyone watching already knew exactly what was coming.

The only person who didn't...

...was Nate
