Caleb Flynn Trial Day 1: Sgt. Rismiller’s Body Cam Missed WHAT?

Five minutes separated Caleb Flynn’s 911 call from the arrival of the first Tipp City police officer at the home where Ashley Flynn was found dead. Day 1 testimony established that early timeline — and revealed that the officer’s first conversation with Caleb was not captured on body camera.

After jurors reviewed the scene, prosecutors called Beth Hull, director of the Miami County Communication Center, as their first witness. Hull testified that she retrieved the records and audio connected to the February 16, 2026 emergency call. According to Hull, the call came in at approximately 2:31 a.m. Prosecutors then played Caleb Flynn’s 911 call requesting help for the jury.

Sgt. Corey Rismiller of the Tipp City Police Department testified that he arrived at approximately 2:36 a.m. He said he searched the home for anyone else and found no other people inside. Rismiller testified that he then entered the bedroom, where Ashley Flynn had significant trauma around her head and was deceased.

Rismiller said he secured the scene, notified detectives of Ashley’s death, and allowed EMS personnel to enter. He also testified that he never treated Caleb Flynn as a suspect during those initial moments.

Cross-examination focused heavily on what happened before Rismiller’s body camera began recording. He testified that the camera did not activate automatically and that he manually turned it on after realizing it was off. That means his first conversation with Caleb was not recorded.

Rismiller also acknowledged that he had previously worked one homicide in Tipp City, back in the early 2000s.

Caleb has pleaded not guilty. Prosecutors allege he killed Ashley and staged the home to resemble a burglary. The defense says Ashley was killed during a real home invasion and investigators later focused on Caleb too quickly.
