Biblical Illiteracy with Lee Brainard

The greatest threat facing the evangelical church today may not be persecution from the outside. It may be biblical illiteracy on the inside.

In this message, Dr. David Bowen unpacks a sobering reality: Christians have more access to Scripture than any generation in history, yet fewer and fewer actually know what the Bible teaches. In this video, we explore:

• Why owning a Bible isn't the same as knowing the Bible
• How "My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge" (Hosea 4:6) speaks directly to the modern church
• The danger of being discipled by algorithms, influencers, and headlines instead of Scripture
• Paul's warning in 2 Timothy 4:3–4 and why it feels more relevant than ever
• Why Jesus opened His Olivet Discourse with "Take heed that no man deceive you" (Matthew 24:4)
• The Berean spirit (Acts 17:11) the church desperately needs to recover
• How biblical illiteracy leaves believers vulnerable to false teaching, cultural pressure, and end-times deception
• Practical steps churches, pastors, and families can take to return to the Word

As the world grows louder and deception grows more sophisticated, the answer isn't less Bible — it's more. A Bible on the shelf cannot transform a life. A Bible that is read, understood, believed, and obeyed can.

Open the Bible. Teach the Bible. Know the Bible. Live the Bible. Maranatha, Lord Jesus.
