Caleb Flynn Court Coverage Day 6: He Told Detective “You’re Pointing at Me”

Det. Sgt. Mike Morgan’s testimony gave jurors something different from a reconstruction of the scene: Caleb Flynn explaining the night Ashley Flynn died in his own recorded words. Prosecutors played two voluntary interviews Morgan conducted with Flynn.

Morgan testified that he responded to the home, walked through the scene and garage, and observed Ashley deceased. He said the garage side door showed damage, but testified that it did not look consistent with forced entry. Morgan asked Ohio BCI to assist. That testimony fits a larger prosecution presentation in which investigators have said they found no evidence supporting the forced-entry account; the defense disputes the state’s conclusion and says Ashley was killed during a home invasion.

Flynn told Morgan that Ashley had put the girls to bed around 8:30 p.m. and that the couple went to bed around 11. Because he was coughing, Flynn said Ashley asked him to sleep on the couch. He later heard the dog, went into the girls’ room and lay on a bunk. Flynn said he then heard two shots, ran to the garage, saw the side door wide open and closed it. He went to Ashley, saw she had been shot and called 911.

Flynn also described two earlier encounters involving a strange man, including one in which he said the man told Ashley, “I know where you live.” Morgan had Flynn write down the firearms and ammunition in the home.

During the second interview, Morgan asked whether there were problems in the marriage. Flynn answered, “No. We had a normal marriage,” and said investigators would find nothing on either phone showing trouble. When Morgan continued questioning him, Flynn said, “It feels like you're pointing at me.” Caleb has pleaded not guilty to all charges.
