JP Miller Faces a Federal Trial — And the Demon Defense Has NEVER Worked

In 1981, a 19-year-old named Arne Cheyenne Johnson stabbed his landlord to death in Connecticut and told the court a demon did it. Judge Robert Callahan threw the defense out before the jury heard a word of it, calling it “irrelative and unscientific.” Johnson was convicted of first-degree manslaughter. That set the template.

Michael Taylor killed his wife after an all-night exorcism in England — the court reclassified the claim as mental illness. David Berkowitz blamed demons for the Son of Sam killings and later admitted in prison he’d invented the story to confuse investigators. Sean Sellers claimed Satanic possession drove him to kill his parents and a convenience store clerk — he was executed in 1999. Jason Dalton killed six people between Uber rides in Kalamazoo and blamed a demonic symbol in the app — life without parole.

The record is perfect. Every defendant who has blamed a demon in an American courtroom has walked out convicted.

JP Miller faces federal cyberstalking and false-statement charges in Florence, South Carolina, with a trial set for January 2027 after six continuances. He told his Solid Rock Church congregation in October 2023 that demons were coming out of him — the same month his affair with Suzie Skinner was discovered. The indictment alleges a tire deflation device, a tracker on Mica Miller’s car, and lies to the FBI.

In a sworn affidavit, Mica’s brother Nate says JP wrote his wife an email that read: “I just attack and try to cause pain.” That was his language when no congregation was listening.

He married Suzie Skinner in June 2025 and started a new church. The demons left. The federal charges stayed.
