"I Look Around" by Rain Parade

"I Look Around" by Rain Parade

In 1983, while the musical world was rushing toward synthesizers, drum machines, and the future, a handful of musicians in Los Angeles were looking backward. Rain Parade were digging into the psychedelic sounds of the 1960s and transforming them into something strange, shimmering, and completely their own.

This episode explores “I Look Around,” the dreamy centerpiece of Emergency Third Rail Power Trip, and the world that produced it: the Paisley Underground, the musical connections between Rain Parade, the Bangles, and the Dream Syndicate, and David Roback's journey from Rain Parade to Opal and eventually Mazzy Star.

It's a story about forgotten records, musical influence, melancholy, and the strange way songs can disappear for a while before somebody finds them again.

Sometimes the past isn't gone.

Sometimes you just have to look around.
