14: Told You're Too Much? Healing Your Sensitive Inner Child | A Session with Mallory

14: Told You're Too Much? Healing Your Sensitive Inner Child | A Session with Mallory

"Maybe you were never too much. Maybe you just had feelings no one knew how to hold with you." - Anat Peri

In this episode of The Way Back to You, Anat guides Mallory, a natural caretaker who can believe in everyone except herself.

Mallory grew up being told she was too sensitive and too much, so she learned to hide her feelings until they exploded. Then she would shut herself in her room, alone, with no one coming to comfort her.

In this session, Anat guides her through her body, from a heavy knot in her throat, to anger, to the grief underneath it, and finally back to the little girl who needed someone to say, "I've got you."

Along the way, Anat unpacks why self trust can't be rushed, how caretaking everyone else can quietly become self abandonment, and why the feelings you were taught to hide shape the way you show up in every relationship.

Takeaways

• Why being called "too much" as a child teaches you to hide your feelings, not to feel less

• How caring for everyone else can become a way of abandoning yourself

• Why self trust is built by learning to consistently show up for yourself

• What it looks like to feel anger all the way through to the grief underneath

• The difference between looking for love from others and learning to give it to yourself

• Why changing your relationship with yourself changes every other relationship

Your practice this week

When something big comes up, instead of asking, "How do I make this go away?" ask, "What does this part of me need from me right now?"

Put a hand on your heart and offer yourself the words you needed back then:

"I've got you. You're safe."

To help your body feel safe enough to stay with what you're feeling, use the same Cultivating Safety meditation Anat gave Mallory.
