Podcast #26 Sergei Prokofiev: Film and Incidental Music #podcast

It's Classical-Discoveries-time and it' back to film music, finally! (For Joe, anyway) This time, Jens and Joe delve into the world of Prokofiev-as film-composer, on whether he's more or less famous for writing film scores than Shostakovich, and why. Along the way, the explore his incidental music, where Prokofiev had set all the great Pushkin plays to music, even if the plays he wrote for weren't, in the end, ever produced.Chapters:0:22 Introduction1:21 Prokofiev vs. Shostakovich5:10 Alexander Nevsky (Film Music,1938)6:52 Prokofiev and Eisenstein9:08 Ivan the Terrible, Op. 116 (Film Music,1943)12:31 Shostakovich vs. Prokofiev13:46 The Incidental Music17:09 Pique Dame, Op. 70 (unfinished Film Music, 1936)18:26 Eugene Onegin, Op. 71 (Incidental Music, 1936)24:39 Egyptian Nights, Op. 61 (Incidental Music, 1934)27:15 Hamlet, Op. 77 (Incidental Music, 1937)29:07 Conclusion*Featured Recordings*C71014 Sergei Prokofiev: Alexander Nevsky💿https://Naxos.lnk.to/C71014IDC5311 Sergei Prokofiev: Ivan the Terrible💿https://Naxos.lnk.to/C5311IDC67058 Sergei Prokofiev: Hamlet / Boris Godunov💿https://Naxos.lnk.to/C67058IDC67059 Sergei Prokofiev: Egyptian Nights💿https://Naxos.lnk.to/C67059IDC67149-50 Sergei Prokofiev: Eugene Onegin / Pique Dame💿https://Naxos.lnk.to/C6714950IDFeatured Artists (Link):Marina DomachenkoRundfunkchor Berlin: https://www.rundfunkchor-berlin.de/en/profile/Rundfunk-Sinfonieorchester Berlin: https://www.rsb-online.de/en/biografie-geschichte-orchester/Frank StrobelMichail JurowskiRecommended Persons:Sergei EisensteinDmitri ShostakovichAlexander Pushkinwith: Jens F.
