The Four-Four-Six Breath: Your Nervous System's Reset Button

The Four-Four-Six Breath: Your Nervous System's Reset Button

Hey there, friend. It's Julia, and I'm so glad you've carved out a few minutes for yourself today. I know this time of year can feel like you're juggling a thousand things at once, and honestly, early mornings before the day really kicks in? That's when the anxiety likes to whisper its loudest. But you're here now, and that's what matters. We're going to ease that tension together. Let's start by getting comfortable. Feet flat on the floor if you're sitting, or lying down if that feels better. Just let your shoulders drop away from your ears like you're shedding a heavy coat. Good. Now take a breath in through your nose, and let it out through your mouth with a little sigh. Again. Feel that? You've already begun. Now I want you to try something I call the Stress Release Breath, and it's as simple as it is powerful. Here's the technique: we're going to breathe in for a count of four, hold for four, and then exhale for six. That longer exhale is where the magic lives, because it actually activates your parasympathetic nervous system, the part of you that knows how to calm down. Let's do this together. Breathe in through your nose for one, two, three, four. Hold it. Two, three, four. Now exhale slowly, deliberately, like you're releasing smoke into the air. One, two, three, four, five, six. Beautiful. Let's do that again. In for four, hold for four, and out for six, imagining with each exhale that you're letting go of something that no longer serves you. Maybe it's a worry about something you can't control. Maybe it's frustration from yesterday. Let it go. Again. In for four, hold, and out for six. Feel the difference? That breath is literally telling your nervous system it's safe to relax. One more round, and this time, notice where you feel the calm most in your body. Is it in your chest? Your shoulders? Your belly? In for four, hold, and out for six. Here's what I want you to do today: pick one moment, maybe when you're having coffee or during your commute, where you can return to this breath. Just two or three rounds. That's your anchor. That's your reminder that you have the ability to shift your own nervous system. You don't need permission to feel better. You just need to pause. Thanks so much for spending this time with me on Stress Relief. If this resonated with you, please subscribe so you never miss a practice. I'll be back soon with more tools to help you find your calm. Take care of yourself. For great deals today, check out https://amzn.to/47ZqpWT
